Lampang Police Adapt to High Fuel Prices by Using Horse Carriages as Patrol Vehicles to Promote Tourism

Lampang City Police Station causes a stir by using horse-drawn carriages as patrol vehicles to adapt to the era of expensive fuel and to promote tourism.

At 8:00 a.m. on 8 April 2026 at Lampang City Police Station in Lampang Province, Police Lieutenant Colonel Thani Tanchankul, Deputy Superintendent of the Patrol Division, along with the patrol unit of the prevention and suppression department, conducted area patrols. What stood out was the use of horse carriages, brought out to help in the era of high fuel prices. To fit the Songkran festival atmosphere, the police wore traditional police uniforms while riding the horse carriages during patrols, adding color to the local community since horse carriages are a symbol of Lampang.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Thani Tanchankul revealed that under the direction of Police Major General Phumipanya Nawatrakulpisut, Commander of Lampang Provincial Police, and Police Colonel Komsan Bamrungyot, Superintendent of Lampang City Police Station, a policy was issued to save energy amid rising fuel prices. Therefore, Lampang City Police Station brought in Lampang horse carriages, considered a symbol of the city and currently in use locally, to support the patrol work.

The horse carriages will be used for general patrol duties similar to patrol cars but will operate over shorter distances. Besides not using fuel, they suit the Songkran festival atmosphere and help promote tourism in Lampang Province. Officers wear traditional police uniforms to match the mood and add vibrancy to the upcoming Songkran festival.

If children and residents see the horse-drawn patrol carriages of Lampang City Police Station and wish to ride or take photos with them, they are welcome to make a request.
