Surachate Hakparn, or “Big Joke,” former Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, and associates involved in the 246 baht gold bribery case to the Attorney General’s Office for legal consideration. The submission included a large volume of detailed documents: 45 folders contained in 23 cardboard boxes.
This case arose from investigations uncovering that Pol. Gen. Surachate and associates gave over 246 baht of gold to officials at the National Anti-Corruption Commission, aiming to gain assistance or favorable treatment in legal proceedings. The Anti-Corruption Division investigators have continuously gathered evidence and concluded there are grounds to prosecute, thus submitting the case file to the Attorney General today.
Next, the Director-General of the Office of the Attorney for the Suppression of Corruption Cases will establish a working committee to thoroughly review the case file to determine whether the evidence is sufficient to file charges with the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases. This is a major case attracting public attention due to the involvement of high-ranking police officers and the substantial bribery amount.
Latest reports indicate that today, in addition to submitting the 246 baht gold bribery case file to the Attorney General, investigators scheduled a meeting with Pol. Gen.
