Police Spokesperson Strictly Prohibits Officers from Using Official Vehicles for Non-Official Purposes

Four more victims have come forward alleging that a police lieutenant colonel at Muang Sam Sip Police Station requested fuel money in a similar fashion. The police spokesperson emphasized that this is illegal and will not be tolerated, pointing out that using official vehicles outside of official duties is already prohibited.

At 12:00 PM on 8 April 2026 at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, Police Lieutenant General Trairong Phiwpan, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, spoke about the progress in the investigation concerning complaints against an investigator at Muang Sam Sip Police Station regarding demands for fuel money. He stated that the provincial police commander of Ubon Ratchathani had reported preliminary findings: several complainants reported similar behavior by the police lieutenant colonel in question. Four cases have been identified so far, and authorities are in the process of contacting the victims or complainants to meet with the investigative team from Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police.

However, the police officer in question has been ordered to report to the operations center at Ubon Ratchathani City Police Station, removed from his original unit for the convenience of the ongoing investigation into the facts.

The Royal Thai Police spokesperson said that these four cases have similar characteristics, varying only in wording, but all involve requests for money from complainants related to his official duties, as reported. Police Commissioner General Kittirat Phanphet has clearly stated that such conduct is unacceptable. Police duties involving investigation, law enforcement, and justice administration are salaried positions with allowances. Demanding money from the public is improper, unlawful, and prohibited.

"Police officers already receive fuel allowances. Those committing such acts are violating laws and regulations; these are individual, personal misconduct cases. The Royal Thai Police, under the direction of the Police Commissioner General, will take decisive action against such violations. Commanders at every level have been instructed to apply strict judgment on this matter. Any misconduct found will not be protected."

Police Lieutenant General Trairong added that fuel allocations have been increased due to the current situation, particularly the Middle East crisis causing high oil prices. The Police Commissioner General understands procurement issues and has ordered the Deputy Commissioner responsible for this area to allocate additional budget accordingly.

When asked what message he would give to officers using official vehicles beyond their duties, Police Lieutenant General Trairong said that using official vehicles outside of official duties is strictly prohibited. He urged commanders to ensure that operations comply strictly with regulations and laws.
