
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpan, spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, inspected public service units during the Songkran festival and revealed that the most frequent legal violation contributing to accidents over two days was not wearing a helmet, recorded 34,816 times, followed by speeding.
At 10:00 a.m. on 12 Apr 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpan, Deputy Inspector General of Police and spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, along with Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepor, Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division 1 and deputy spokesman, Pol. Col. Jirayus Vanichkul, Deputy Commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Police, and Pol. Col. Prut Jamroonsat, Superintendent of Rattanathibet Police Station, Nonthaburi, visited a public service center during the Songkran festival in front of the Thaicom Satellite Station on Rattanathibet Road, Bang Krasor Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District, where police officers, district officials, and Nonthaburi municipality staff were providing services to the public.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpan said he was inspecting the public service point to facilitate traffic for travelers during Songkran. The Royal Thai Police have set up service points nationwide and found traffic flowing smoothly with better vehicle dispersal and fewer cars compared to previous years, though public transport usage has increased. Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panpet emphasized strict checks and supervision of public transport drivers, working with the Department of Land Transport and operators to enforce a strict no-alcohol, no-drug driving policy.
At the same time, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong said he conveyed concerns and encouragement from Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panpet, the police chief, to officers working at public service units, stressing service with dedication and jointly ensuring public safety throughout Songkran. He also emphasized public awareness campaigns to strictly follow traffic laws to prevent accidents and reduce losses.
Specifically, the statistics on major legal violations contributing to accidents over two days (10-11 April 2026) showed the highest was not wearing a helmet, recorded 34,816 times, followed by speeding beyond legal limits at 27,635 times, not wearing seat belts 8,581 times, drunk driving 5,687 times, and driving against traffic 4,428 times.
Regarding the “House Care with Police” project, 4,615 households nationwide have participated. The Royal Thai Police have instructed patrol officers to conduct strict inspections. The public can still register to have their homes looked after until 20 April 2026 via the Police Care application or at their nearest police station.
