A sergeant major with a violent gun incident has surrendered after shooting his girlfriend. He revealed he had just returned from border duty and could not bear the distressing sight of the woman he was to marry next month with another man.

Most recently, at 11:00 a.m. on 12 Apr 2026 GMT+7 at Dong Pa Kham Police Station, Mr. Sathaporn Phunsawat, the lawyer, brought Sergeant Atthasit, the suspect in the attempted murder case, to surrender to Police Lieutenant Colonel Ekaphap Thirawanthu, deputy superintendent of Dong Pa Kham Police Station, Phichit. Relatives of Sergeant Atthasit accompanied him. Then, Police Major General Songpon Sangkasem, commander of Phichit Provincial Police, along with Police Colonel Phubet Saengaram, head of the investigation division, closed the interrogation room to question Sergeant Atthasit for nearly two hours.

Before the incident, he had just returned from duty at the border and learned his girlfriend would attend a monk ordination ceremony, so he came to find her there. However, upon arrival, he witnessed something deeply upsetting, which triggered an impulsive emotional reaction that led to the incident.
