At 10:30 on 15 April 2026, at the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Road Safety Center announced the road accident statistics for the Songkran 2026 festival. On 15 April 2026 alone, there were 192 accidents, resulting in 202 injuries and 30 deaths.
In total, over the 5-day campaign period (10–14 April 2026), there were 951 accidents, 911 injuries, and 191 deaths. The Road Safety Center ordered all agencies to coordinate preparations for people returning home, emphasizing strict inspections of public transport vehicles and drivers. They also enforced rigorous laws against drunk driving with genuine enforcement, bringing offenders into probation processes alongside strict controls on alcohol sales to minors and discouraging risky behaviors in all areas.
Meanwhile, Police Lieutenant General Rutthapon Naowarat, Minister of Justice and chair of the press briefing summarizing the Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Center's operations during the Songkran Festival 2026, revealed that on 14 April 2026, the fifth day of the "Drive Safely, Reduce Speed, Reduce Accidents" campaign, there were 192 accidents, 202 injuries, and 30 deaths.
The leading causes of accidents were speeding at 38.54% and drunk driving at 28.13%. Motorcycles accounted for the highest proportion of vehicles involved at 72.88%, mostly occurring on straight roads (77.08%) and on local roads within subdistricts/villages (30.73%). The peak accident time was 15:01–18:00, comprising 23.96% of incidents. Most injured and deceased were aged 20-29 years, making up 23.71%. The province with the highest number of accidents was Phrae (16 incidents), which also had the most injuries (18 people). Pathum Thani province reported the highest number of deaths (3) during this period.
