Itthiphon Atchariya Pradit, the Chief Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, have assigned officials to follow up and investigate an incident involving a fight and gunfire at a shop in the Muang Pattaya Police Station area, Chonburi Province, which resulted in one fatality. The suspect was identified as a police officer.
Following the investigation with Pol. Col. Anek Sathongyu, Superintendent of Muang Pattaya Police Station, it was reported that the incident occurred at 01:20 today. Patrol officers at Muang Pattaya Police Station received a report of a fight involving firearms behind a shop. Upon arrival, rescue personnel were assisting a man injured by gunshot wounds.
Before the incident, the victim, a companion, and the police officer suspect were sitting together at the same table inside the venue. A verbal dispute erupted, and the police officer attempted to shoot one of the people at the table but missed. Another man tried to wrest the gun away from the officer, resulting in him being shot and seriously wounded. He later died at the hospital. The police officer suspect was immediately detained at the scene.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong stated he has instructed the Superintendent of Muang Pattaya Police Station to take strict legal and disciplinary action against the suspect immediately, and to thoroughly review the supervision and discipline enforcement of police officers in accordance with orders on control measures and enhancement of police conduct and discipline.
