Former Nursing Assistants Jealousy Leads to Fatal Assault on 5-Month Pregnant Wife

A former nursing assistant, jealous over his 5-month pregnant girlfriend, assaulted her until she died inside their home. When police arrived, he claimed she had fallen by herself but confessed after intense questioning, tearfully apologizing.

Updates on the case of Ms. Yardrung, 33, from Mae Rim district, found dead in her home in Nong Hoi subdistrict, Mueang district, Chiang Mai, with bruises on her body. Her boyfriend, Mr. Kanthee or Jib, 35, was waiting for police and claimed that the pregnant victim had accidentally slipped and fallen inside the house, causing her death. However, police were skeptical and interrogated him thoroughly.

He eventually confessed he was a former nursing assistant who had been dating the victim for about eight months. He had quit his job to live with her, selling clothes online and working as a delivery rider. The victim was attractive and had many admirers, which caused arguments; during these, he often claimed,“The baby in her womb isn’t mine.”This angered him, leading him to lose control and assault her by hitting and choking, suspecting she was seeing someone else, until she died.

Authorities charged him with assault causing death and took him in for further questioning. When reporters asked why he killed his girlfriend, he refused to answer until asked if he wished to apologize, to which he said,“I’m sorry. I loved her very much.”He then broke down in tears.

Recently, reporters visited the scene, finding a single-story house closely built with others. Two white sedans, belonging to the victim and suspect, were parked in front.

Neighbors said Mr. Kanthee usually kept to himself and lived only with his girlfriend. He had a hot temper. On the night of the incident, their son heard them arguing around 1 a.m. to almost 2 a.m. but didn’t intervene, thinking it was a normal quarrel. Upon learning the victim was beaten to death, he was shocked and never expected such an event in their village.

Authorities have charged Mr. Kanthee with assault causing death and will present him to the Chiang Mai Provincial Court for detention tomorrow.
