Single mother appeals for help"Sai Mai Must Survive"She was deceived by a man claiming to be a police officer for nearly a year and suspects him of stealing 8 baht of gold from her safe. Although the man denies it and a complaint has been filed, the case seems to have made no progress.
At 12:30 p.m. on 21 Apr 2024 GMT+7, on the 'Sai Mai Must Survive' Facebook page, located on Wat Ko Road, Sai Mai district, Ms. Waraporn (surname withheld), 39, an employee at a private company, sought help from Mr. Ekaphop Lueangprasert, founder of the page. She accused her boyfriend, Mr. Thongchai Na Nakhon, 42, of pretending to bea police officerwith the rank of Sub-Lieutenant affiliated with Metropolitan Police Division 2. They lived together for one year. He stole various gold items, including gold necklaces, rings, bracelets, children's ankle bracelets, a gold pendant totaling 8 baht weight, and 3,000 baht in cash—all vanished without a trace.
Ms. Waraporn said that early in 2024, she met the man through Facebook and they began a relationship. He took her to his home before moving in with her at her dormitory. He claimed to have been a royal guard soldier with the rank of lieutenant and later transferred to work as a police officer under the name"Lieutenant Pop."He was affiliated with Khan Na Yao Police Station, assigned to drug suppression, and claimed involvement in a well-known shootout case. He showed her a video clip, though it was unclear. During their relationship, he wore police uniforms both in full dress and plainclothes, drove her to work, took her to meals, and even brought her to Khan Na Yao Police Station, claiming to deliver items to a sergeant, asking her to wait in the car for about five minutes. These events made her believe he was truly a police officer.
Ms. Waraporn further explained that about four months into their relationship, he said he had been reassigned to follow a sergeant at Metropolitan Police Division 2 and that his bank account had been frozen because"the sergeant's boss"had deposited drug money into his account. He asked to borrow money from her several times, totaling about 30,000-40,000 baht.
Additionally, he once pulled a gun to her head and physically abused her during arguments. She also found a type of narcotic drug in his bag.
Later, a friend's boyfriend who is a police officer noticed inconsistencies in the man's uniform and helped check the records but found no information on"Lieutenant Pop"in the Royal Thai Police database. When she confronted him, he insisted he was a real police officer. Their relationship continued for another four to five months until she discovered all the gold jewelry in her safe had disappeared, including her child's ankle bracelets. Only three fake gold chains she had never seen before remained in the safe. When she asked him, he denied knowing anything and claimed he did not know the safe's code. However, she believed he was responsible since they were the only two in the house and she had written the safe code in a notebook on her bedside table.
She filed a complaint at Huai Khwang Police Station on 29 Dec 2023, bringing the man dressed in a police uniform. However, after investigation, the police did not pursue theft charges due to insufficient evidence and advised her to gather more proof. It was confirmed that he wasa "fake police officer."Police searched the residence they shared and found one fake gun and one homemade Thai gun. She did not know if any charges were filed, but he was released the same day.
After these events, she decisively ended the relationship and appealed for help on the 'Sai Mai Must Survive' page because the gold theft case had no progress. The man was released and still tried to harass her and reconcile, even taking photos of her car and room, making her feel unsafe. Furthermore, on his TikTok, he continues to impersonate a police officer, wearing the uniform as if nothing happened and showing no remorse. She fears other women may become victims.
Mr. Ekaphop Lueangprasert, founder of the 'Sai Mai Must Survive' page, said that after five months, the case remains unresolved. He will coordinate with the Huai Khwang Police Station chief to track down the suspect and recover the victim's property. He will also coordinate with the Khan Na Yao Police Station chief to investigate the person impersonating a police officer, which has damaged the station's reputation, and check whether any officers knowingly allowed"Lieutenant Pop"to come and go freely at Khan Na Yao Police Station.
