A mentally unstable son raged inside the family home before stabbing his biological father to death in Samut Sakhon. When the younger brother tried to intervene, he was also attacked and had to flee. The victim's wife said she had just taken her husband to a birthday merit-making ceremony the day before.
At 11:00 a.m. on 22 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Acting Sub-Lieutenant Natthiphat Naksang, Deputy Investigating Officer of Krathum Baen Police Station, received a report of an assault with injuries at a house in Village No. 13, Om Noi Subdistrict, Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon Province. Officers, along with personnel from Mahachai 2 Hospital and Om Noi Municipality, promptly went to investigate.
At the scene, Mr. Duan, 69, was found with three stab wounds to his torso, bleeding profusely. Authorities provided urgent first aid before transporting him to Mahachai 2 Hospital, where he later died.
Inside the house, bloodstains were found throughout the second-floor bedroom of Mr. Duan, extending down the staircase and across the ground floor.
The suspect was identified as Mr. Krisda, 44, the son of the victim. After the incident, he fled on a motorcycle without wearing a shirt, only a green cloth tied around his neck.
Mrs. Taengkwa, 65, the victim's wife and mother of the suspect, said their eldest son has a history of mental illness. He had previously used drugs but had been clean for nearly 10 years. Recently, he developed an addiction to white liquor, leading to frequent unemployment. Whenever he drank, he would lose control and often quarrel with family members, mostly with his father, but never to the point of physical violence except for threats. He would sometimes threaten to kill or burn down the house. When his condition worsened, she would call the police to take him to the hospital. The police helped by taking him for treatment, but he was usually discharged after one night. Despite the parents' requests for him to be sent to the Kanlayana Rajanagarindra Institute, where he had been treated before, the hospital refused. She even asked medical staff why he was not sent there, questioning if they were waiting for him to become violent enough to kill someone in the family. Ultimately, he was never transferred as requested.
Mrs. Taengkwa added that she personally monitored his medication and finances because he often asked for money. She would give him money for food but never for alcohol, as drinking always triggered his episodes. That morning, after the father had dropped her off at work, the son came to ask her for 200 baht at the factory gate, saying his motorcycle radiator was broken and needed repair. She gave him the money and then went for a medical check-up at the hospital. Later, the father called her, saying,“Why did you give him money? He used it to buy alcohol.”This worried her greatly, and then the incident occurred. Just yesterday was her husband's birthday; she had taken him to make merit. Now he had been killed by his own son, which she believed was the end of his luck.
Mrs. Taengkwa said that the younger son told her the elder brother became violent and attacked their father with a liquor bottle while the father was eating in the bedroom. The younger son tried to intervene but was unable to stop the attack, and the elder brother then turned to assault him as well. The younger son fled into a room and locked the door, fearing his brother would try to kill him too.The father tried to escape the room but was stabbed multiple times in critical areas and was seriously injured. After the elder son committed the attack, he went to neighbors seeking help, but no one opened their doors. He then fled on his motorcycle. The family requested the police to apprehend him quickly and wished that he face consequences for his actions.
Neighbors said the father and son often quarreled, so no one was concerned about the severity. They heard arguments again that morning but paid little attention until learning of the fatal incident. The victim was a good man who worked to support the family of four. The suspect had irregular employment and often drank white liquor when free but never quarreled with neighbors—only family members. After the attack, he sought help from close neighbors, but they refused to open their doors because he was wearing only underwear, no shirt, and was bloody, which frightened them. He became angry, put on long pants without a shirt, and immediately fled on his motorcycle.
Police Colonel Phasaphong Monta, Superintendent of Krathum Baen Police Station, said that after the incident, he ordered the investigation team to spread out and track the suspect's escape route. They believe he has not gone far because he was not wearing clothes, had no money, and only one motorcycle.
