Sia Paeng Na Nohnod Complains of Harassment in Prison, Exposes Guards Allowing Inmates to Use Phones and Computers

"Sia Paeng Na Nohnod," a notorious prisoner famous for unlocking his shackles, recorded a video pleading for justice and expressing his feelings. He claims to be harassed at Bang Kwang Central Prison and wants to be transferred to Klong Prem Prison. He also points out that guards in wards 1 and 10 allow inmates to use mobile phones and computers, appealing to relevant authorities for fairness.

On 24 Apr 2026 GMT+7 in Phatthalung province, reporters reported that Mr. Chaowalit Thongduang, also known as Paeng Na Nohnod or Sia Paeng Na Nohnod, 41, is a notorious prisoner convicted of robbery. He gained notoriety for unlocking his shackles and escaping from Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital, until Indonesian police arrested him during his incredible cross-border escape. He was then brought back to Thailand for prosecution. Currently, he is held at Bang Kwang Central Prison as a defendant in criminal case number A.49/2022 (black) and criminal case number A.1861/2022 (red) in Phatthalung Provincial Court, serving a sentence of 20 years and 16 months.

Today, Mr. Chaowalit Thongduang, aka “Sia Paeng Na Nohnod,” recorded a clip sent outside the prison to complain to reporters, claiming he is currently being treated unfairly in several matters while in custody.

In the first clip, “Sia Paeng Na Nohnod” said he wanted to send a message to reporters in Phatthalung province to help report that he is being harassed legally. He claims he was deliberately denied the right to file an appeal by Bang Kwang Prison officials, causing his petitions to be rejected and forcing him to resubmit them. There are multiple other cases where he was prevented from submitting appeals, losing his right to defend himself. He now requests a transfer to another prison, as he frequently faces harassment from staff at Bang Kwang Central Prison. He wishes to be moved to a nearby prison such as Klong Prem and urges the Ombudsman to investigate Bang Kwang prison officials.

In the second clip, he expressed a desire for the public nationwide to be aware and for the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice to know that many prisoners face frequent legal denials and harassment, without regard for the impact on inmates. Officials prioritize keeping large inmate populations because it generates more budget and profits from commissary sales. No staff member wants to work in prisons with fewer detainees.

In the third clip, “Sia Paeng Na Nohnod” alleges that prison officials allow inmates to use computers and mobile phones, which is prohibited under the Ministry of Justice's regulations, Section 72, Clause 6. However, staff in wards 10 and 1 permit the use of phones and computers to communicate regarding drug cases involving seizures from abroad.

Additionally, numerous documents have been submitted by Mr. Chaowalit Thongduang, or Sia Paeng Na Nohnod, to various agencies requesting fairness in the management of prisoners who have lost their legal rights.
