A fully loaded eucalyptus 10-wheeler truck driver claimed brake failure and loss of air pressure, causing a 7-vehicle pileup. Three motorcycles were crushed beneath the truck, resulting in deaths and injuries. Bang Khun Thian Police Station plans to press charges and send the truck for inspection at a garage.
At 09:30 on 24 April 2026, Police Lieutenant Kanacharn Sawasdee, deputy investigator at Bang Khun Thian Police Station, received a report of a multi-vehicle collision with fatalities and injuries at the Suan Liap interchange near Bang Wa BTS station on Ratchaphruek Road, Pak Khlong Phasi Charoen subdistrict, Phasi Charoen district, Bangkok. He went to the scene with Police Lieutenant Colonel Komin Atsophonwatana, traffic officer at Bang Khun Thian Police Station, forensic doctors from Siriraj Hospital, and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
The accident occurred at the foot of the overpass crossing Phetkasem Road, a two-lane road. On the far right lane was a green and white Isuzu 10-wheeler truck, license plate 77-4400 Prachinburi, fully loaded with eucalyptus logs, crushing three motorcycles underneath: a white and red Honda Dream, plate 5ขอ 6130 Bangkok; a red Honda Sonic, plate 1กด 6449 Bangkok; and a red Honda Click, plate 4กม 468 Bangkok. Two riders were trapped under the truck: Mr. Charuwat Amchaiphum, 50, a motorcycle taxi driver, and another unidentified Thai man.
At the front of the truck, it crushed the head of Mr. Tosaphon Ruekchalermphoj, 55, against the left side door of a black MG sedan, license plate 7กด 9112 Bangkok, killing him instantly at the scene.
On the right side of the MG sedan, it was crushed against the rear of a white Isuzu concrete mixer truck, license plate 86-8172 Saraburi. Two more people remained trapped inside the MG sedan: Mr. Chitsanucha Wangarunroj, 31, and Mr. Chatphat Wangarunroj, 63. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutters to extract all four victims from the wreckage amid great difficulty.
Additionally, two people were injured in a taxi struck by the eucalyptus-loaded 10-wheeler. The taxi, a yellow Toyota Altis, license plate ทอ 603 Bangkok, spun and hit the central barrier. The driver, Mr. Somkid Sarapol, 63, and passenger Mr. Plakorn Chaisri, 29, were rushed to Bangpakok 9 International Hospital. The unidentified Thai man trapped under the truck was sent to Siriraj Hospital.
The 10-wheeler driver, Mr. Jamphee Jobphaeng, 67, suffered minor injuries and remained in shock. He told investigators that before the crash, he was driving the eucalyptus-loaded truck along Kalapapruek Road outbound toward Phetkasem Road. As he reached the scene during rain and slippery conditions, the brakes failed and the air pressure was lost. Despite trying to brake, he could not stop due to the heavy load. He then turned off the engine, but the truck rolled faster downhill on the overpass approach to Phetkasem Road, eventually hitting motorcycles and several vehicles in succession.
Mr. Jamphee was initially sent for treatment at Suksawat Hospital. After discharge, investigators will summon him to face charges of reckless driving causing injury and death. The 10-wheeler will be sent for inspection by the Traffic Police Division. If defects are confirmed, additional charges for operating an unroadworthy vehicle will be filed.
The body of Mr. Tosaphon was handed over to Poh Teck Tung Foundation volunteers to be delivered to the Department of Forensic Medicine at Siriraj Hospital for detailed autopsy.
