Former Community Head Turns Himself In After Shooting Journalist Dead, Claims He Could No Longer Endure Being Reprimanded

The former community head who shot a journalist dead and slashed the victim’s wife and sister, injuring two others, has surrendered to police, claiming he was fed up after being reprimanded multiple times.

In the case involving Anusorn, known as Uncle Tha, aged 62, a former community head who stormed in and shot local journalist Chaiwut Chaiyinta, 54, dead, then chased and slashed Panadda Chimphad, 55, the victim’s wife, causing serious injuries. Also injured was Paraporn Chimphad, 48, the victim’s wife’s sister, who suffered a head wound. Both were rushed to Lampang Hospital. The suspect was reportedly angered over a parking dispute before fleeing. The incident occurred on the evening of 26 April 2026.

The latest update: at 10:00 a.m. on 27 April 2026, Anusorn surrendered to police at Khelang Nakhon Police Station, Mueang District, Lampang Province, and was immediately taken to the interrogation room.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to prior conflicts, explaining the victim had reprimanded him several times, which caused his anger to build up. On the day of the incident, he was...watering plants. The victim reprimanded him again, causing him to lose patience.

Police Colonel Phuchit Triyamprai, Chief of Khelang Nakhon Police Station, stated the incident stemmed from a long-standing dispute over land use, with neither party owning the land. The suspect claimed the other party was armed with a knife and appeared to threaten him, so he fired his registered gun in self-defense. After the shooting, there was a struggle over the knife before the suspect slashed the victim’s wife and sister, causing injuries.

Initially, police plan to charge the suspect with homicide. The firearm used is registered. The full facts are still under investigation.

At 2:00 p.m., reporters reported that authorities had planned to bring Anusorn to reenact the crime to support his confession but canceled the plan as he was unwilling. He will be sent to Lampang Provincial Court for detention.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased waited in vain, many expressing disbelief that a dispute over relocating a parking spot just a short distance away could lead to such a fatal outcome.
