The Deputy Inspector General of the National Police is following up on the case of a police sergeant who ran an illegal dice gambling ring, deceiving a brain-injured young man out of more than 120,000 baht. The sergeant has been suspended pending investigation. Authorities emphasize ensuring fairness and providing care for the victim who reported intimidation.
On Saturday, 2 May 2026 at 10:30 a.m., at Mueang Phatthalung Police Station in Phatthalung Province, Police Lieutenant General Trairong Piwpan, Deputy Inspector General of the National Police and spokesperson for the National Police Office, visited the area to follow up on the progress of an important case. He met with the victim involved in a video clip alleging that police officers acted as hosts of an illegal dice gambling ring, deceiving and enticing the victim, who has a brain disability, to gamble and lose a large sum of money. On 29 April 2026, Mr. Peerasak (surname withheld), accompanied by Mrs. Yupaporn (surname withheld), filed a complaint with investigators stating that on 27 April 2026 at about 11:30 p.m., Mr. Karnchit, also known as Police Sergeant Karnchit (surname withheld) or “Sergeant Tiger,” invited him to gamble at a residence along with two other individuals believed to be relatives of the accused.
As a result of the gambling, Mr. Peerasak lost a sum of money and borrowed 10,000 baht in cash, as well as pawning a gold necklace valued at approximately 100,000 baht to continue gambling, eventually losing all of his assets. The victim then informed his parents to help redeem the pawned items and believed he had been deceived. Consequently, he decided to file a legal complaint.
The Investigation Division of Region 9 Provincial Police quickly examined the facts and established a committee for a serious disciplinary investigation. Police Sergeant Karnchit was ordered suspended pending the investigation. Meanwhile, Phatthalung Provincial Police assigned Mueang Phatthalung Police Station to strictly, transparently, and fairly handle the legal proceedings. Additionally, Mrs. Yupaporn Meenayut, 46, and Mr. Peerasak Promma, 20, the victims, requested protection for their personal safety and property from Police Lieutenant General Trairong Piwpan, who was informed that they had been continuously threatened by the police officer involved.
Police Lieutenant General Trairong Piwpan stated that the National Police Office takes this matter very seriously, ordering detailed, careful, and fair investigations both criminally and disciplinarily. Region 9 Police has formed a disciplinary investigation committee and initially ordered Police Sergeant Karnchit suspended. Every complaint will be thoroughly investigated. He has also spoken with the victims to assure them of the police’s commitment to justice in both criminal and disciplinary matters. There is clear evidence supporting disciplinary action, and for effective management, the commanding officers have exercised their authority to suspend the sergeant.
Police Lieutenant General Trairong Piwpan added that regarding the threats to the victim’s family, he will arrange for the victim and the sergeant to meet and discuss the matter to reach mutual understanding and fairness for both sides. Therefore, there should be no further grievances. Police officers will ensure the safety of the victim’s family. He will closely monitor the case to ensure justice for all parties and to build public confidence in the Thai police justice process.
