Two Military Officers to Meet Police on 5 May after Being Summoned in Shooting Case of MP Kamonsak

Two more military officers at the ranks of Lieutenant Commander and Lieutenant are scheduled to meet investigators on 5 May after being summoned in connection with the shooting of MP Kamonsak.

On 2 May 2026, reporters reported progress in the case where assailants used a white Toyota four-door pickup truck from the Internal Security Operations Command in Narathiwat Province as a vehicle and an M16 rifle to shoot at the car of Mr. Kamonsak Leewamo, MP for Narathiwat District 5 from the Prachachart Party. The incident occurred in front of his residence on Phetkasem Road, Bajoh Subdistrict, Bajoh District, Narathiwat Province, on 20 March 2026. Mr. Uchalam Kole, the driver, and Police Corporal Harirak Heemminah, an escort officer, were seriously injured.

Subsequently, the investigation team arrested five suspects related to the case under arrest warrants: 1. Mr. Somporn Langdet, responsible for planning, coordinating, and identifying targets; 2. Mr. Alawi Awe, the driver; 3. Mr. Thanapat Watthanapinyon, the gunman; 4. Mr. Suntorn Promphakdee, the garage owner; and 5. Lieutenant Colonel Wiroj Ketumanee, also a gunman.

Later, Mr. Kamonsak Leewamo, MP of Narathiwat, filed additional complaints with investigators against two more individuals: 1. Lieutenant Commander Montri, who lent Lieutenant Colonel Wiroj Ketumanee a vehicle from the Internal Security Operations Command to commit the crime and is currently under disciplinary investigation by his unit; and 2. Lieutenant Decho, who is believed to have knowledge of and participated in planning the attack. They are charged with hiring, masterminding, or supporting attempted murder, similar to the five suspects already arrested.

Recently, a source from the investigation team revealed that investigators have issued summons for the two individuals, Lieutenant Commander Montri and Lieutenant Decho, to acknowledge the charges. Details of evidence linking them to the case have not been disclosed. It is known that both have received the summons and informed officials they will report on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, without specifying the time. Should they ignore or fail to appear, authorities may consider issuing repeated summons or arrest warrants in the future.
