Former Famous Boxer Arrested for Hospital Theft Amid Drug and Gambling Addiction

Police at Mueang Roi Et Station arrested a former famous boxer who became a thief, sneaking into a hospital to steal a bag from a patient's relative. He claimed he had fallen on hard times, was addicted to drugs, and lost money gambling.

On 3 May 2026, under the leadership of Police Lieutenant Colonel Kowit Hanpradit, Investigation Officer at Mueang Roi Et Station, together with the investigative team, arrested Mr. Phurin Meesuk, 35, a Laotian national, seizing a brown shoulder bag, a small black bag, a bankbook, and several documents.

At about 3:00 a.m. on 2 May, the victim, who was staying overnight at a relative’s lodging at Roi Et Hospital while caring for a sick father, fell asleep and was stolen from—the thief took a bag containing approximately 5,000 baht in cash and important documents.

After receiving the report, police quickly reviewed CCTV footage and identified the perpetrator, eventually apprehending him. The suspect admitted to the theft, saying he spent the stolen money on gambling and discarded the bag by the roadside.




Further investigation revealed that the suspect was formerly a famous boxer known by the name “Khemrat Sit Ja Pae.” He once earned up to 80,000 baht per fight but later had no scheduled matches. Coupled with drug addiction, his life declined, leading him to commit theft to buy methamphetamine and gamble.

Initially, officials charged him with nighttime theft and will continue legal proceedings accordingly.
