At 17:30 on 4 May 2026, Police Colonel Tolarp Lengha, Chief of Mayo Police Station, Pattani, received a report of a shooting with a fatality at Ban Muang Wan intersection, Village No. 4, Sakobon Subdistrict, Mayo District, Pattani. Upon receiving the report, he immediately dispatched officers to investigate.
At the scene in the middle of the village intersection, authorities found a bronze silver Isuzu pickup truck, license plate BK 7147 Pattani, riddled with bullet holes. Both the driver and passenger side windows were shattered, and the doors and windshield had multiple bullet impacts. There was a large pool of blood on the road near the driver's door.
The injured victim was taken by good Samaritans to Mayo Hospital but later died. He was identified as Police Sergeant Mayaki Diyaw, 50, head of the Public Relations Unit at Ratapanyang Police Station in Yaring District, Pattani. He was shot multiple times with military-grade firearms. At the scene, several military-grade and 9mm bullet casings were found and collected as evidence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that before the incident, the victim had finished his duty and was driving home in Mayo District. Upon reaching the intersection, four assailants on two motorcycles arrived and pretended to be electricians near the scene. When the victim slowed down at the intersection, the assailants immediately opened fire. The victim tried to open the car door to escape but was shot repeatedly and died at the scene. The assailants then quickly fled the scene.
