In Kanchanaburi, the reenactment turned chaotic as the deceased's relatives broke through police lines to assault the former son-in-law involved in a shooting. Authorities had to quickly detain him and remove him by vehicle from the house where the incident occurred.
At 1:00 p.m. on 7 May 2026, Police Major General Pasavee Rueangphu, Commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police, led a team from the Kanchanaburi Provincial Police Investigation Unit along with officers from Lat Ya Police Station to detain Mr. Chayan, age 47, the former son-in-law who shot his father-in-law and brother-in-law dead and seriously wounded his mother-in-law. He was brought to reenact the crime at the scene amid over a hundred relatives and friends of the victims who had gathered to watch the police reenactment.
Police deployed 50 officers to control the situation and prevent disorder during the reenactment. However, the relatives and friends of the victims were deeply angered and broke through the police lines intending to assault the suspect. This caused chaos, forcing police to quickly detain Mr. Chayan and remove him by vehicle from the crime scene immediately.
Mr. Somjit Niamprayoon, 57, the father of Mr. Sataya (the younger brother of the former wife), told reporters that before the incident, Mr. Chayan had consulted him several times about his problems. Somjit said he had warned Mr. Chayan not to use violence, and Mr. Chayan had promised to try to resolve the issues peacefully. This gave Somjit and the victim's family a false sense of security, not anticipating violence. They expected Mr. Chayan to come to discuss and settle the matter on the day of the incident, but he immediately drew a gun and committed the violent act. Such brutal behavior was far beyond reasonable.
After detaining Mr. Chayan and removing him from the crime scene, police took him to a nearby mountain area where he had fled and hidden. He later surrendered to the police there, leaving the firearm behind at that location. Mr. Chayan has so far refused to provide any information to the media.
