Male Prisoner Who Escaped Thanyaburi Prison Caught Suspected Family Issues Behind Escape

A male prisoner escaped from Thanyaburi Prison despite having 23 days left to serve. He recently requested to surrender, with the suspected reason for the escape being to resolve family issues.

On 9 May 2026, the Department of Corrections released a statement regarding the search for Mr. Seksan Ruptong, 37, convicted of bodily harm and with 23 days remaining on his sentence (due for release on 30 May 2026). He escaped while attending vocational training outside the prison on 7 May at approximately 10:47 a.m.

Officials from the Department of Corrections and police jointly sealed off and searched targeted areas along the escape route and relatives' homes until Seksan Ruptong contacted his relatives to coordinate surrendering to Thanyaburi Prison officials. He surrendered at about 9:50 p.m. on 8 May near Road 344 in Ban Bueng District, Chonburi Province.

The initial reason for the escape was family problems, prompting him to flee in order to address these issues.

The Department of Corrections expressed gratitude to police, related agencies, and the public for providing tips and cooperating in the successful recapture of the escaped inmate. The department will strengthen measures and tighten supervision of inmates going forward.
