A garbage collector was shocked and ran to notify the police after finding the body of a newborn baby near the Charoenkrung 58 Fish Bridge area. He initially thought it was a doll.
At 20:30 on 11 May, Police Lieutenant Colonel Lertchai Phulongchai, an investigator from Yannawa Police Station, received a report of a newborn baby's body abandoned inside a trash bin in Soi Charoenkrung 58, Yannawa district, Bangkok. He promptly went to the scene with a forensic doctor from the Police General Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.
At the scene, the newborn's body was found discarded inside a trash bin in the middle of the alley. The baby's sex could not be determined initially. The body still had the umbilical cord attached, indicating it had been born very recently.
Mr. Chainarong, 50, the garbage worker who first discovered the body, said in shock that while performing his regular trash collection duties, he opened the bin and saw what he first thought was a doll. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a real newborn baby.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses at the scene to identify the cruel mother and take legal action. The baby's body has been sent for autopsy at Police General Hospital.
