Cyber Police Sting and Arrest Man Selling Illegal Guns via Facebook, Claiming to Support Five Children

Cyber police planned a sting operation before raiding and arresting a man who was illegally selling guns online, claiming he needed money to support five children.

On 13 May 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapol Prembutr, Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, along with Pol. Lt. Gen. Naradet Thiprak, Commander attached to the Royal Thai Police Office, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deephaw, Commander of Cyber Crime Division 1, ordered Pol. Col. Kritin Tapsilo, Chief of Intelligence and Special Tools Unit, Cyber Crime Division 1, to lead a team to arrest Mr. Chalerm Jamchamrat, 30, from Chonburi province, with one .380 caliber firearm seized as evidence.

Investigators from the Intelligence and Special Tools Unit of Cyber Crime Division 1 detected posts offering illegal firearms for sale in a Facebook weapons trading group. They arranged to buy a .380 caliber gun for 10,000 baht, agreeing to meet at a convenience store in front of Ban Kao Temple, Village No. 4, Ban Kao Subdistrict, Phan Thong District, Chonburi province. At the scheduled time, Mr. Chalerm arrived to deliver the gun and was immediately arrested with the weapon seized.

During interrogation, Mr. Chalerm claimed this was his first time posting a gun for sale. He said he had purchased the firearm online for 5,000 baht and resold it in the gun trading group for 10,000 baht to make a profit to support his five children.

He faces charges for “possessing firearms and ammunition without permission from the registrar” and “carrying firearms in public areas, villages, or streets without permission from the registrar.”
