At Thalang Police Station in Phuket, a suspect in an attempted murder case was found dead by hanging in the detention cell. Two other detainees said they were asleep and did not witness the incident. Police are urgently conducting a detailed investigation into the cause.
At 12:17 p.m. on 14 May 2026, Police Sub-Lieutenant Kriangkrai Daokrajai, deputy investigator at Thalang Police Station in Phuket, was notified by the duty officer that a male suspect had been found dead by hanging inside the detention cell at Thalang Police Station. He reported this to Police Colonel Nikhon Chuthong, chief of Thalang Police Station, and coordinated with doctors, prosecutors, administrative officers, and forensic officials to examine the scene.
Inside the cell, the body of Mr. Siwator, 41, a suspect under an arrest warrant from Phuket Provincial Court for attempted murder and carrying a knife, was found sitting with a rope tied to the cell bars. Initial examination found no signs of struggle or assault. It is estimated he had been dead for no more than one hour.
At the time of the incident, three suspects were held together in the cell. The other two said they had been asleep for about two hours before waking at the officers’ call to find the deceased in a secluded corner of the cell.
Reviewing CCTV footage showed that around 11:00 a.m., all three suspects were in the cell behaving normally. The deceased appeared restless, pacing before moving alone into a secluded corner. By about 11:40 a.m., officers and other detainees discovered he had died.
Preliminary investigation revealed from the deceased’s relatives that he had a history of drug use and frequent anxiety. He had been arrested multiple times previously for disorderly conduct and was recently charged with property damage. The arrest warrant for attempted murder was issued after he stabbed a victim with a knife on 25 April.
Authorities will continue a thorough investigation into the cause of death and prepare the autopsy report, as this death occurred while the individual was in official custody.
