Chonburi – Investigators from Sriracha Police Station escorted Amnat Ruenreung, former IBF world champion, from the detention room to be held at Chonburi Provincial Court. He apologized to society, admitting his past was too chaotic, and asked for a chance to reform. He assured he would not return to his old lifestyle and said he is now determined to teach boxing.
At 09:00 on 20 May 2026, reporters at Sriracha Police Station, Chonburi, saw police take Amnat Ruenreung, former Thai national amateur boxer and former IBF flyweight world champion (112 pounds), onto a vehicle to be brought to Chonburi Provincial Court.
The case arose after Amnat Ruenreung's family, fed up with his behavior, posted a video showing the former world champion using drugs and causing disturbances late at night. The clip went viral, drawing public attention. On 18 May 2026, Mr. Phiphatphon Amornphet, Sriracha district chief, together with police officers including Pol. Lt. Col. Kittithara Jamjaeng and Pol. Lt. Col. Kittiphat Darunphan from Sriracha Police Station, and local volunteer forces, arrested Amnat in Khao Tang On community, Surasak subdistrict, Sriracha district, Chonburi. He was tested for drugs, with positive results.
Amnat had been under probation and required to report regularly to Chonburi Provincial Court. He had reported twice, but on the last occasion, he committed misconduct, used drugs, and his behavior was recorded and widely shared on social media. He currently faces a suspended sentence and failed to report to the court. The Chonburi Probation Office will consider revoking his suspended sentence, which may lead to legal penalties.
Police escorted Amnat to Chonburi Provincial Court to proceed with detention formalities. His demeanor showed no signs of stress or worry; he only said, “I ask for one more chance. This time, I will do better. I will not act badly or repeat my old habits.”
Reporters noted that at some point, Amnat said, “I have to adjust myself completely. My past was too chaotic. It's hard to believe I did those things. This time will be the last for my life. When I get out, I will teach boxing and dedicate myself to it again. I apologize to society.”
