The Crime Suppression Division announced the operation "Ending the Strange Karma-Clearing Guru," arresting Ajarn Paisan, a well-known karma-clearing teacher, on charges of indecent acts and sexual assault. It is suspected he selected the names of victims from alumni directories.
At 10:30 a.m. on 20 May 2026 at the Central Investigation Bureau headquarters, Pol. Lt. Gen. Natsak Chawanasai, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, Pol. Maj. Gen. Phatthanasak Bupphasuwan, Commander of the Crime Suppression Bureau, Pol. Col. Pathak Kwan-na, Deputy Commander of the Crime Suppression Bureau, Pol. Col. Eksit Pansita, Chief of Division 4, Crime Suppression Bureau, Pol. Lt. Col. Attawit Sukthat, Deputy Chief of Division 4, and Pol. Lt. Col. Narong Hansantiya, Inspector of Division 4, held a press conference titled "Ending the Strange Karma-Clearing Guru!!" They announced the arrest of Mr. Paisan Saenlai, 67, under Criminal Court warrants 2840/2026 for "Rape of a person unable to resist" and 2841/2026 for "Abduction of a minor over 15 but under 18 years old for indecent acts." He was apprehended at his home in Pa Bong Subdistrict, Pa Sang District, Lamphun Province, along with the seizure of six categories of evidence.
The seized evidence included: Category 1 - clothing and traditional loincloths worn on the day of the incident, totaling five items; Category 2 - various school alumni books, 13 items; Category 3 - documents and books detailing monks' histories and temples, 85 items; Category 4 - records of visitors and patients treated, 33 items, containing names, addresses, and phone numbers of victims; Category 5 - seven electronic devices; and Category 6 - other items such as bank book copies, land title deeds, and 55 other documents.
This arrest followed social media reports concerning Mr. Paisan, a well-known figure in Lamphun Province, who claimed to possess miraculous visions and a sixth sense. He asserted he could communicate with and perceive past-life events and karmic creditors who harbored grudges affecting people's current lives. He purportedly assisted and advised on resolving karmic origins to cure illnesses or alleviate suffering. However, he allegedly sexually abused young men who sought his help to clear their karma and recover from chronic illnesses.
On 7 May 2026, a victim reported to investigators from Division 4, Crime Suppression Bureau, filing charges against Mr. Paisan. The complaint stated that after claiming to cure chronic headaches, Paisan lured and sexually assaulted the complainant. On 11 May 2026, a second victim also filed charges, alleging that while the family sought treatment for back pain, they were sexually abused.
Police from Division 4 conducted investigations and interviews with related persons, gathering substantial evidence supporting that the offenses occurred. The authorities subsequently obtained arrest warrants from the court and proceeded with the arrest and seizure of evidence as described.
Initially, upon arrest, Mr. Paisan denied the charges and requested to consult a lawyer. Officials will conduct detailed questioning as he was only recently brought to Division 4, Crime Suppression Bureau, for further investigation and prosecution.
According to reports, investigations revealed that when individuals suffering from illness or distress sought his assistance, Mr. Paisan directed them to visit various temples to pray for divine intervention. He claimed this would enable him to have visions revealing the karmic causes of their ailments and hardships. He requested photographs as evidence to begin subsequent ritual ceremonies.
He then conveyed the vision's results, stating the causes of illness or hardship stemmed from past-life karma. He compared historical records and advised that the afflicted needed to resolve their bad karma by seeking forgiveness from those who had wronged them in past lives. Mr. Paisan provided names and addresses of these karmic creditors for the individuals to approach. Upon locating these persons, he performed rituals to ask for karmic forgiveness. Some believers offered him money and assets out of faith.
Additionally, Mr. Paisan authored books recounting his visions of traveling to past lives, encountering historical events such as the construction of cities, temples, and religious sites. He identified people involved in those events who have since reincarnated and currently exist. The books named these individuals with their addresses. These writings were serialized and published, distributed to those participating in his rituals.
The inclusion of real names and addresses gave an aura of authenticity to the general public, spreading his reputation over several decades. Public figures and celebrities who sought his help and shared their experiences through media further enhanced his fame, leading many ordinary people to believe and place their faith in Mr. Paisan.
Some of the names and addresses of karmic creditors provided by Mr. Paisan matched those found in collected alumni directories from various institutions. Verification with the named individuals revealed that friends from the same schools had also sought forgiveness rituals. This led to the assumption that some of the personal information he cited was sourced from these alumni records he had amassed.
