The National Police Chief declares no retaliation against anyone regarding "Wirut" referencing the police organization and affirms that if anyone commits wrongdoing, strict disciplinary and criminal measures will be enforced.
On 21 May 2026, Police General Kittirat Punpetch, the National Police Chief, addressed the issue of potentially suing Police Colonel Wirut Sirisawasdibutr, a former officer, and related individuals for "defamation by advertising" after referencing the Royal Thai Police. He said he does not retaliate against anyone. If anyone accuses the police or the police organization, the legal department will review and advise accordingly. He urged that the sanctity of the law should be upheld and reminded that the Royal Thai Police has been a home and livelihood for many families, so discretion should be used considering loyalty to one's own organization.
Regarding whether to file a lawsuit, he reiterated that he is someone who does not retaliate but warned not to malign the organization. Therefore, measures must be in place. He assigned the National Police spokesperson to acknowledge that if the police are at fault, they must accept responsibility and take strict disciplinary and criminal action. However, if the accusations are untrue, the facts must be clarified to the media and the public.
As for restoring public confidence, he said that some criticisms or negative comments can be beneficial as they encourage self-reflection and improvement. The police must establish their own standards to regain public trust and ensure that people feel safe.
