A son, a former soldier, stabbed his father, a former Border Patrol Police officer, who suffered serious injuries. The son cited a dispute over household registration as the cause, insisting the act was unintentional and expressing remorse for what happened.
At 11:00 a.m. on 21 May 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Phunop Ruengying, an investigator from Khao Chaison Police Station in Phatthalung Province, along with patrol officers, arrested Sergeant Kanitsorn, known as “Bird,” age 40, a former soldier dismissed from service, at a house in Khao Chaison District. Kanitsorn had stabbed his father, Lieutenant Colonel Jeerasak, age 66, a former Border Patrol Police officer from Unit 434 Phatthalung, causing serious injuries.
Examination revealed the injured man had stab wounds on his back, head, and neck. Relatives rushed him to Khao Chaison Hospital before transferring him for further treatment. His condition is now stable.
Inside the house, bloodstains were found trailing from the kitchen to the front living room. Authorities collected the fruit knife used in the assault as evidence.
During questioning, Kanitsorn stated that before the incident, he had an argument with his father over transferring his name into the household registration, as he needed the documents to apply for a job in Phuket. He believed his name was still registered centrally, while his father insisted it was already in the household registration. This disagreement escalated into a heated confrontation.
Kanitsorn further claimed that during the argument, his father attacked him first with a kitchen knife, causing injuries to his head and right hand. A struggle for the knife ensued, and in anger, Kanitsorn stabbed back. He emphasized that he did not intend to harm his father and feels sorry for the incident.
At the time of the attack, the mother, Ms. Kruawan, ran out of the house calling for help from neighbors. Locals then assisted in taking the injured man to the hospital.
After being detained, Kanitsorn remained calm and told authorities that since his father retired in 2020 and returned home, they frequently argued. He also alleged that his father had previously abused his mother, creating ongoing family tension. This was a reason he wanted to work in Phuket.
Local residents reported that Kanitsorn previously served in the military at a camp but was dismissed and had a prior drug-related conviction. He underwent treatment and later went to work in Phuket but encountered problems and returned home. The recent quarrel with his father led to this incident. Some locals noted that Kanitsorn sometimes talked to himself and exhibited signs resembling drug-induced hallucinations.
Initially, police charged Kanitsorn with assault causing serious injury and have detained him to proceed with legal action.
