Najaomtien police arrested a “Khmer astrology fortune teller” who deceived a woman into performing a curse-cleansing ritual to open her love fortune, then took advantage to rape her, claiming it was part of the ritual, causing a loss of over 1.7 million baht in money.
On 24 May 2026, reports stated that yesterday (23 May), Pol. Col. Phisit Tangsirisathien, Superintendent of Najaomtien Police Station, ordered Pol. Lt. Col. Adisorn Kongkoi, Deputy Chief of Investigation at Najaomtien Police Station, along with Pol. Lt. Chamnong Sarachat, Deputy Investigation Officer, to lead the investigation team to execute an arrest warrant issued by Pattaya Provincial Court No. 260/2569 dated 22 May 2026. They arrested Mr. Boonyarit, 65, the suspect in charges of "fraud and rape," at a fortune teller’s residence in Najaomtien Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province.
The arrest followed a female victim who was deeply distressed by relationship problems and disputes with her boyfriend, who then disappeared and could not be contacted. This caused the victim to become stressed and turn to superstition, hoping to improve her life and love.
Later, she was introduced to the suspect who presented himself as an “ancient Khmer astrology fortune teller,” claiming to possess strong powers to resolve karma, enhance destiny, call back lovers, and remove black magic and negative influences from life. The suspect persuaded the victim, asserting that she was being tormented by karmic debts and that failure to quickly perform the ritual would worsen her life, ruin her love, and possibly cause the permanent loss of her partner.
Subsequently, the suspect conducted various rituals including fortune reading, luck-clearing, and fate adjustment, claiming that ceremonial offerings and assistance from Khmer spiritual masters were necessary. The victim believed this and gradually transferred payments for tuition, rituals, and offerings multiple times from January 2026 until the end of March, totaling more than 1,700,000 baht in damages.
Additionally, the victim revealed a shocking detail that during the ritual, the suspect claimed it was necessary to perform a “physical curse-cleansing ceremony” to open her love fortune and remove negative energy from her body. Taking advantage of this moment, he molested and raped her, claiming it was a critical step of the ritual, which left the victim fearful, confused, and unable to resist.
As time passed, the victim began to suspect she had been deceived, having lost a large sum of money and suffered physical and psychological violation. She decided to gather evidence and file a complaint with investigators at Najaomtien Police Station to pursue legal action.
After receiving the report, the investigation team quickly examined financial transactions, chat messages, and surrounding evidence, uncovering behavior consistent with fraud and sexual assault. They gathered sufficient evidence to request a court-issued arrest warrant and successfully apprehended the suspect.
Initially, Mr. Boonyarit denied all allegations, claiming that all money was voluntarily given by the victim and that their relationship was consensual.
However, authorities remain unconvinced since multiple pieces of evidence align with the victim’s statements. The suspect has been detained and handed over to investigators to proceed with legal action according to the law.
