PTSD Raids and Arrests Chawanont, Former Democrat Party Spokesperson, in Bounced Check Case Involving Over 100 Million Baht in Damages

PTSD raided and arrested "Chawanont," former Democrat Party spokesperson, at his condo in a bounced check case with numerous victims and damages exceeding 100 million baht.

On 26 May 2026 GMT+7, it was reported that yesterday (25 May), Police Lieutenant Colonel Pathompong Thongjamroon, Deputy Superintendent 5 of the Crime Suppression Division (PTSD), executed an arrest warrant from the Phra Khanong North Criminal Court No. 275/2568 dated 20 April 2025, arresting Mr. Chawanont or "Aof" Intrakomalasut on charges under the Check Act for "issuing a check to pay a legitimate debt enforceable by law, with the intention of not providing funds for payment on that check."

During the arrest, it was learned that in 2023, Mr. Chawanont was sued by multiple victims under the Check Act for damages amounting to several million baht. He later negotiated settlements with the victims and issued checks to pay the debts according to the agreements.

However, it later emerged that many of the checks issued for debt repayment could not be cashed and bounced. The victims then filed new complaints, while Mr. Chawanont fled and became unreachable, prompting the Phra Khanong North Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant.

Subsequently, PTSD officers learned that the suspect had fled and was residing in a condominium in the Phra Khanong area. They conducted an investigation and found Mr. Chawanont walking nearby, whereupon they identified themselves and arrested him.

Upon arrest, Mr. Chawanont requested the officers to carefully review the arrest warrant, stating that he had negotiated settlements that led to the withdrawal of several warrants in other cases.

Nevertheless, the officers informed him that the warrant remained valid and that he was still a person wanted under that warrant before detaining him and transferring him to the Khlong Tan Police Station for legal proceedings.

Further checks revealed that Mr. Chawanont has two outstanding arrest warrants and several other cases where victims have filed complaints pending issuance of warrants, with total damages exceeding 100 million baht.

Reports also noted that Mr. Chawanont formerly served as spokesperson for the Democrat Party and as secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs during the leadership of Abhisit Vejjajiva as party leader.
