
Gunshots rang out at a police flat where Lieutenant Padung was found lying in a pool of blood in critical condition. Officers are urgently trying to save his life, suspecting stress related to health issues.
At 04:00 on 27 May 2026 GMT+7, Lieutenant Colonel Sithakan Nantathong, deputy investigator of Lumphini Police Station, received a report of a police officer who had shot himself inside a police officers' housing flat located behind Lumphini Police Station on Witthayu Road, Lumphini Subdistrict, Pathumwan District, Bangkok. She rushed to the scene with Erawan emergency medical services and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
At the scene in Building 5, fourth floor, they found Lieutenant Padung, 58, deputy inspector of Lumphini Police Station, with a gunshot wound to the head from an unknown caliber firearm. He was lying in a pool of blood in critical condition. Rescuers performed CPR for over 30 minutes before rushing him to Phyathai 1 Hospital.
Investigation revealed that before the incident, Lieutenant Padung was resting in his fourth-floor room with his wife, who works as a nurse at a private hospital. Suddenly, gunfire was heard, and they found Lieutenant Padung lying severely wounded in a pool of blood.
Officials initially believe Lieutenant Padung, stressed by health or personal issues, decided to shoot himself inside the room. Doctors are currently working to stabilize him and prevent fatality.
