Police Spokesperson Confirms Former F1 Racer Mika Salo Not Assaulted, Urges CCTV Review to Verify Facts

The police spokesperson revealed that the forensic examination of the wounds on the former foreign F1 driver aligns with his statement that the injuries may have resulted from a motorcycle collision. No signs of wounds from sharp objects were found. The Metropolitan Police have been ordered to conduct a thorough review of CCTV footage.

On 27 May 2026 at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, addressed the case of Mika Salo, a former foreign Formula 1 driver injured in Bangkok. Following reports circulating on social media, the National Police Chief emphasized the importance of cases involving foreign tourists and instructed the Metropolitan Police Bureau to conduct a close investigation of the facts.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong added that he personally met with the victim yesterday. The tourist confirmed he was not assaulted and did not suspect any attack but believed the injuries stemmed from a motorcycle collision while returning.

The police spokesperson stated that yesterday the victim underwent a forensic medical examination at the Police General Hospital, as recommended by investigators, to closely inspect the wounds. Although the wounds had been stitched, their characteristics could still be analyzed. The examination found the wounds had "uneven edges," which forensic doctors said could result from impact with a blunt object, not a sharp one. Sharp object wounds typically have smooth, wider-open edges. These findings correspond with the victim’s account.

Additionally, the National Police Chief ordered the Metropolitan Police to review CCTV footage from the scene. It was found that before the incident, the tourist visited a restaurant and socialized, then proceeded to another venue. While returning, the victim claimed to have been grazed by a motorcycle but could not recall the vehicle’s license plate.

Authorities are currently tracing the route via CCTV footage. Although some areas lack coverage, footage shows the victim walking to a taxi. Investigators have already questioned the taxi driver, who confirmed the victim used tissue paper to dab blood, consistent with all statements. The Metropolitan Police will continue a detailed investigation to clarify the complete facts.
