Police Receive Thai Suspects Returned from Laos, Immediate Action If Linked to Call Center Gangs

The police spokesperson disclosed that when receiving Thai nationals from neighboring countries, they must undergo a human trafficking victim screening process and an online crime database check. If found involved with mule accounts, crypto accounts, or online fraud cases, legal proceedings will be initiated immediately.

On 27 May 2026 at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, Police Lieutenant General Trairong Phiwpan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, announced that the authorities of the Security Command in Bokeo Province, Laos, handed over 106 Thai suspects, including 51 women, to Thai police at the 5th Laos-Thailand Friendship Bridge international checkpoint in Bokeo Province. The suspects were brought back to Thailand to face legal proceedings.

In cases of Thai or foreign nationals returned from neighboring countries, officials begin by applying the NRM process—screening for human trafficking victims—to determine if any individuals qualify as victims. If identified as victims, they receive specialized professional care and protection immediately.

Additionally, officials request the full list of returned individuals to cross-check against the Royal Thai Police’s online crime databases, including the TPO system and the online fraud case system, to identify any links to bank accounts, cryptocurrency accounts, or involvement in call center gang cases and online scams.

Police Lieutenant General Trairong stated that if any individual is found connected to financial channels or online crime cases, they will be separately prosecuted under the law. Furthermore, financial data will be coordinated and exchanged with relevant agencies to further investigate and dismantle transnational criminal networks.
