Nakhon Ratchasima — Police from Khorat Police Station intervened to subdue a mentally ill man who was rampaging while wielding a machete. They decided to use a taser as a tactical measure, but accidentally struck the leg of a fellow officer who was trying to clear the machete, causing minor injuries.
At about 14:00 on 27 May 2026, Nakhon Ratchasima reporters reported that a Facebook user named Suparanan Judkratok shared photos and video clips showing a mentally ill man becoming violent, prompting officials to intervene. It took about three hours to control the man using a taser, as he was armed with a machete and had taken refuge inside a house. This happened inside a home in Ban Map Krad, Village No. 5, Khok Krachai Subdistrict, Khorat District, Nakhon Ratchasima.
When asked, the Facebook live streamer was identified as Ms. Suparanan Judkratok, 36, a health volunteer at the Map Krad Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital, located in the same village as the incident. She recounted that at about 1 p.m. on 27 May 2026, she was informed about a mentally ill man becoming violent and threatening his elderly sister and mother. She then contacted five police officers from Khorat Police Station to intervene.
When the police first arrived, the disturbed man, upon seeing them, wielded a machete and threw clumps of soil and stones at them before running inside the house. He remained inside for hours, refusing to come out, making noise by tapping objects with the machete to signal he was armed. The officers therefore hesitated to enter immediately.
During this time, one officer asked the man if it was hot inside, to which he replied there was a fan and it was not hot. Locals then cut the electricity, as the house was connected to the neighbor's power. After about three hours, the police decided to storm the house, subduing the man with a taser that caused him to collapse. Meanwhile, one officer tried to clear the machete near the man, but another officer fired the taser again aiming to fully incapacitate the man, accidentally hitting the leg of the officer clearing the weapon, causing minor injuries. The man was then taken to hospital.
The man is a resident of Ban Map Krad, Village No. 5, Khok Krachai Subdistrict, Khorat District, Nakhon Ratchasima. Relatives said he is mentally ill, had received treatment multiple times, and had recently escaped from the hospital about four to five days before the violent episode, which led to police intervention.
Authorities urge families with members at risk of such incidents—whether due to mental illness or history of drug addiction—to closely monitor them or notify relevant officials. This allows for proper mental health support and helps prevent similar incidents, as police may not always be able to control situations promptly, which could result in unexpected harm or loss.
