The Director of the NACC Investigation Bureau, accompanied by his lawyer, surrendered to police to acknowledge charges for driving a pickup truck that killed a delivery rider, while authorities are considering charges against a man in black who tried to falsely claim he was the driver.
At 09:00 on 29 May 2026, Pol. Maj. Gen. Atthapon Anusit, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Police Region 1, Pol. Maj. Gen. Dechaphee Kongdee, Commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Police, Pol. Col. Chokchai Kanacharoen, Deputy Commander of Nonthaburi Provincial Police, Pol. Col. Phumisith Tangwithdecha, Superintendent of Bang Sri Muang Police Station, along with investigators, met to follow up on the case of Mr. Jarong Kohmao, 52, Director of the NACC Investigation and Special Affairs Bureau. He drove a black Mitsubishi pickup truck with Bangkok plates that collided with the rear of a gray electric motorcycle, also Bangkok-registered, ridden by Mr. Sornarin Nakongsi, 43, a delivery rider. The rider suffered a severed left arm and fractured skull and died. The accident occurred at 22:30 on 27 May 2026 on Ratchaphruek Road on the overpass crossing Rattanathibet Road, Bang Rak Noi Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District.
At 09:15, Mr. Jarong Kohmao arrived in his private car with his lawyer, parked behind the police station, and went upstairs to the third-floor meeting room to surrender to police. He was interrogated and charged with three offenses: driving under the influence causing death, reckless driving causing death, and failing to stop and provide assistance after the collision. The interrogation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, forensic police from Nonthaburi Province returned to examine the pickup truck involved, collecting DNA and latent fingerprints.
Investigators also summoned a restaurant manager and security personnel for questioning to confirm that Mr. Jarong had been at the establishment. When reporters asked about the incident at the restaurant, the manager confirmed Mr. Jarong was indeed there and had consumed three bottles of wine.
Reports indicate that today the investigators will charge Mr. Thamrong, 52, a man in black and friend of Mr. Jarong, who appeared in the video after the pickup truck struck the delivery rider. Mr. Thamrong attempted to impersonate the driver instead of Mr. Jarong. He also went to the police station and claimed to the officers that he was the driver. Police administered a breathalyzer test, which showed his blood alcohol concentration at 115 milligrams percent.
Mr. Thamrong had been drinking with Mr. Jarong at a restaurant on Ratchaphruek Road from about 16:30 before parting ways around 22:00. Shortly after, Mr. Jarong drove the pickup truck and fatally collided with the delivery rider. Mr. Jarong then called Mr. Thamrong and came to the accident scene, where Mr. Thamrong attempted to falsely claim he was the driver instead.
The Nonthaburi Provincial Police Commander, leaving Bang Sri Muang Police Station, stated that after the interrogation is complete, there will be a press briefing including the Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 1 and the Director of the NACC Investigation Bureau.
