Police Commission Withdraws Agenda to Appoint Police Major General Taweesin as Assistant Commissioner, Denies Links to 14th Floor Case

The Police Commission resolved to withdraw the agenda to appoint Police Major General Taweesin Vejvitaran, Chief Medical Officer of the Police Hospital, as Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police. The police spokesperson pointed out that with the annual appointments approaching in one month, there was no external pressure and no connection to the Police Hospital 14th floor case.

At 13:30 on 29 May 2026, at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, acting as chairman of the Police Commission, presided over the 5/2026 Police Commission meeting. Key agenda items included the selection of two out-of-schedule police appointments and the appointment of police officers following the decision of the Police Integrity Protection Committee regarding Police Major General Lakana Sakdipaet.

Police Major General Trairong Phiwpan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, said after the meeting that the commission resolved to appoint Police Major General Lakana Sakdipaet in accordance with the Integrity Protection Committee's decision. However, they decided to withdraw the out-of-schedule annual police appointments because many commission members felt that the regular annual appointments for general officers are scheduled for 1 July, just one month away, and that Police Chief General Kittirat Phanphet has effectively managed the Assistant Commissioner positions.

Therefore, they saw no necessity to make out-of-schedule appointments and resolved to withdraw the agenda for these. The spokesperson affirmed that this withdrawal decision was free from any external pressure and has no connection whatsoever to the Police Hospital 14th floor case.

Reports previously indicated rumors that the out-of-schedule appointment would have promoted Police Major General Taweesin Vejvitaran, Chief Medical Officer of the Police Hospital, to Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, while Police Major General Paiboon Jiamanukulkit, acting Chief Medical Officer, would be appointed as the new Chief Medical Officer of the Police Hospital. Both officers are scheduled to retire on 30 September 2026.
