Authorities Expand Asset Seizure of Vietnamese Cannabis Factory, Prepare Warrants for Two Thai-Vietnamese Investors

The Bang Bon police chief, together with the Bangkok Office of the Narcotics Control Board, expanded the asset seizure of a Vietnamese cannabis gang’s factory, confiscating two cars and over 60 air conditioners. They are expediting the financial investigation and preparing to issue arrest warrants for two investors, one Thai and one Vietnamese.

At 08:00 on 29 May 2026, Pol Maj Gen Theeradej Thamsuthi, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau; Pol Maj Gen Samart Promchat, Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Division 9; and Pol Col Theerachai Dedkhad, Deputy Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Division 9, ordered Pol Col Thanamet Wijitchariya, Chief of Bang Bon Police Station, together with Pol Lt Col Supakorn Kanmalak, Deputy Chief of Investigation at Bang Bon Police, and officials from the Bangkok Office of the Narcotics Control Board, led by Mr. Adirek Onlamul, Director of Law Enforcement Division, and Ms. Phatsapong Nimsamlee, Assistant Director of Bang Bon District, along with Bang Bon Police investigation officers and narcotics control officials, to conduct operations.

They conducted a raid on a cannabis production factory located in Bang Bon 4 Soi 6, Bang Bon Nuea Subdistrict, Bang Bon District, Bangkok. This follows the arrest on 27 May of seven Vietnamese suspects charged with "jointly producing Category 5 narcotics (cannabis extract) without permission and employing foreigners without work permits." Authorities seized large quantities of processed cannabis and hashish but did not find the factory owner.

Pol Col Thanamet Wijitchariya, Chief of Bang Bon Police Station, stated that on 27 May, Bang Bon Police, together with traditional medicine officials and the Food and Drug Administration's narcotics unit, jointly inspected the factory suspected of illicit cannabis production. They seized over 15 kilograms of hashish and arrested Vietnamese suspects for prosecution. Today, they coordinated with Bangkok’s Narcotics Control Board and Bang Bon District Office to trace assets acquired through drug trafficking. The seizure included more than 60 air conditioning units valued at over one million baht and a Toyota Avanza car parked inside the factory.

Mr. Adirek, Director of Law Enforcement at the Bangkok Narcotics Control Board, said that following the arrest of suspects charged with producing and selling Category 5 narcotics (cannabis), asset seizures included cash and two cars. Today’s raid also confiscated building components, specifically air conditioners. Further assets are under investigation. They are also examining possible links to another illegal cannabis factory in Bang Bon 5 Soi 3, previously raided by the Narcotics Suppression Bureau. Although licenses permit cultivation and sale of cannabis buds and flowers, illicit production of hashish—a Category 5 narcotic extract—is illegal and subject to prosecution. Asset seizures and financial tracing are underway.

The Bang Bon police chief added that both factories appear connected, as suspects are Vietnamese in both cases. The Bang Bon District Office will inspect the factories. While cannabis cultivation is permitted under license, confusion remains among some about its legality. The Department of Thai Traditional Medicine confirms cultivation is allowed with proper licenses for sale and processing. However, transforming cannabis into extracts or hashish is illegal and subject to prosecution.
Ms. Phatsapong Nimsamlee, Assistant Director of Bang Bon District, stated that a letter will be sent to the Department of Thai Traditional Medicine, Ministry of Public Health, to verify licensed cannabis cultivation sites within Bang Bon District. They will collaborate with Bang Bon Police to continue inspections.

Reports indicate two investors behind the operations have been identified: one Thai and one Vietnamese. Authorities are gathering evidence to request arrest warrants.
