Relatives Receive Body of Rider Killed in Drunk Driving Crash by NACC Investigation Director, Tearfully Invite Spirit at Accident Scene

Relatives received the body of a 'rider' who died after being hit by the Director of the Investigation Bureau of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) while driving drunk. They tearfully invited the spirit at the accident scene before holding a funeral rite at Thung Khru Temple in Bangkok. The deceased's brother affirmed he is not worried about the case and no one has come to negotiate yet.

The case involves Mr. Sornnarint Nakongsri, 43, a delivery rider, who was fatally struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Mr. Jorng Kohmo, 52, Director of the Investigation and Special Affairs Bureau of the NACC. The crash occurred at 22:30 on 27 May 2026 on Ratchaphruek Road, on a bridge over Rattanathibet Road, Bang Rak Noi Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District.

At 11:30 on 29 May 2026 at the Institute of Forensic Science, Ministry of Justice, Soem Saang Road, Ban Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Pathum Thani Province, Mr. Asawatep Nakongsri, or Kluay, 47, the elder brother of Mr. Sornnarint, accompanied by relatives, presented documents to receive the body. The atmosphere was filled with sorrow and grief.

At 13:35, the body of the younger brother was placed in a coffin inside a white van and taken from the Institute of Forensic Science to perform a spirit invitation ceremony at the accident site before proceeding with traditional funeral rites at Thung Khru Temple. Mr. Asawatep, the elder brother, bought a new pair of shoes for his brother to wear.

Mr. Asawatep revealed he is the elder brother of the deceased; they have three siblings. The deceased was the youngest and a single father who had separated from his wife several years ago and raised two children alone. The eldest, a 21-year-old son, works as a laborer supporting himself, while the youngest, a 20-year-old daughter, had to drop out of school due to financial difficulties. Before knowing his brother was a delivery rider, he had warned him to be careful. The damaged motorcycle was known to be a rental.

Regarding the case, he said he is not very worried because the suspect has confessed. However, if anyone comes to negotiate or interfere, he would first ask who they are and then tell them to settle matters with his elder sister, who is managing the situation. Since the incident, no one has contacted them. But if someone wants to apologize to the family, that would be acceptable and there are no objections.

When asked about initial rumors of a driver change, Mr. Asawatep said that if that were true, he would consider the person neither a gentleman nor a government official but something else entirely. After watching the video, he said he could not accept it and thought overnight that he must pursue the matter fully, as his sister had stated in an interview. Although he was not very close to his brother and only talked occasionally, the last time being two weeks ago, sometimes when his brother passed by his house, he would ask to rest there.

Before his brother’s death, there were signs, though he wasn’t sure if he imagined them. One day while driving to work, his vehicle's plug-in device suddenly failed completely. At first, he suspected a blown fuse. Around 10 p.m., his sister called to inform him that his brother had been in a fatal accident. He was shocked and rushed to the scene, trembling with fear.

Mr. Asawatep also said that today he came to bring his brother home to be kept at Thung Khru Temple in Bangkok. The funeral wake is scheduled for three nights, with the cremation ceremony set for 17:00 on 1 June 2026 GMT+7.

Relatives wept as they invited the spirit at the accident site.

At 14:00, relatives of Mr. Sornnarint invited a monk to perform a spirit invitation ritual at the accident site. The atmosphere was filled with sorrow; relatives and close friends stood silently before placing flowers and lighting one incense stick to invite Mr. Sornnarint’s spirit home amid the sobbing and tears of a family still struggling to accept the sudden loss.

After completing the spirit invitation ceremony, the relatives immediately took Mr. Sornnarint’s body to Thung Khru Temple to perform traditional funeral rites, surrounded by the mourning of family, relatives, and friends who had come to pay their last respects.
