The wife of the NACC Director, eyes brimming with tears, represented her husband at the rider’s funeral. She affirmed their commitment to honor their promise to provide support to the family within their means, with the condition that a formal agreement be signed at the police station. She denied knowing about the director’s promotion and admitted that the family is under stress and unable to sleep.
The case involves Mr. Jarong Moakroa, Director of the Investigation and Special Affairs Bureau at the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), who drove a pickup truck that struck and killed Mr. Sornarin Nakongsri, a 43-year-old rider, on the Bang Rak Noi interchange road in Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province. Initial findings showed Mr. Jarong’s blood alcohol level was as high as 189 milligrams percent. He was taken into police custody and charged at Bang Sri Muang Police Station, then released on bail using his position. Subsequently, a scuffle occurred when Mr. Jarong went to apologize and pay respects at Mr. Sornarin’s funeral at Thung Khru Temple in Bangkok but was punched in the face by the victim’s friend while walking to the temple hall, as previously reported.
On 30 May 2026 at Thung Khru Temple on Pracha Uthit Road, Thung Khru Subdistrict, Thung Khru District, Bangkok, reporters observed the atmosphere during the second night of the funeral rites at Hall 3, where the body of Mr. Sornarin Nakongsri, aged 43, lay. The mood was filled with sorrow.
At 18:50, the wife and sister of Mr. Jarong Moakroa, Director of the Investigation Bureau at the NACC, arrived to pay respects on behalf of Mr. Jarong.
Before the ceremony, Mr. Jarong’s wife and sister spoke to the media, saying that Mr. Jarong intended to attend but the family was concerned about his safety due to the assault that occurred the previous day. Additionally, Mr. Jarong had a medical appointment, and doctors reported bruising under his eye, eight stitches on his lip, and injury to his right arm from a fall. Fearing further harm, the family decided to send representatives, with his wife acting on his behalf.
They reaffirmed the original promise made to the victim’s family to attend the funeral daily and to provide compensation to the bereaved family within the limits of their ability. After the ceremony, there will be discussions with the victim’s family at the police station to have a neutral witness present and to officially record the agreement.
Regarding rumors about the director’s transfer following the incident, the wife said, “I am not aware. Since the incident, I have not followed the news or TV reports.” She admitted the entire family is under stress and unable to sleep. Speaking as a mother of two, she said she has not kept up with any news or details in the media. She then excused herself to attend the Buddhist chanting scheduled for 19:00.
The funeral will be paused for one day on 31 May, with the cremation ceremony scheduled for 1 June.
