Suspect Jai Su Detained for Murder of Woman Found in Bathroom, Charged with Intentional Homicide

Mae Ping Police Station officers have detained "Jai Su," accused of murdering a woman found in a bathroom, and filed charges of intentional homicide. The suspect claimed he acted in a fit of rage because he was about to be assaulted. He expressed remorse and apologized to the victim's family.

In the case, Mae Ping Police officers detained Mr. Jai Su, 46, the suspect in the murder of Mrs. Kam Ing, 50, whose body was found concealed in a bathroom inside a dormitory in San Phi Suea Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chiang Mai Province, on 18 May 2026. Afterward, he fled across the border at Tha Khilek and returned to his hometown, Keng City, in Shan State, until Shan soldiers captured him.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon Yisakorn, Commander of the 5th Provincial Police Region, revealed that during questioning, Mr. Jai Su stated he met the victim, Ms. Kam Ing, through Facebook. They had been chatting for about eight months and had met three times. He said he considered her just a female friend and spoke with her normally without any other intentions.

On the day of the incident, 16 May 2026, which was lottery day, he went to sell goods at Pa Khoi Tai Market as usual. After the lottery results were announced, he found he had won two lottery tickets with the number 08. He told Ms. Kam Ing, who then said she wanted to drink beer. He picked her up and bought beer for them to drink together in a room.

Mr. Jai Su claimed that while drinking beer, Ms. Kam Ing tried to caress him, arouse him, and invited him to have sexual intercourse. He refused, saying he was not attracted to women, which angered Ms. Kam Ing. She then grabbed his neck and complained, mocking his sexual orientation several times. He tried to explain that he was not interested in women. Eventually, Ms. Kam Ing used a cloth to strangle his neck, but he shook it off. In a fit of rage, he strangled her until she became motionless and died. He then staged the scene to blame the victim’s boyfriend before fleeing.

Meanwhile, Ms. Kam Ing’s son did not believe Mr. Jai Su’s claim that his mother tried to assault him. However, he wants the police to prosecute fully according to the law. He said he will hold a merit-making ceremony for his mother and light incense, asking that the person responsible for his mother’s death receive just punishment and that his mother’s spirit rest in peace.

In the latest update on 2 June 2026, Mae Ping Police investigators brought Mr. Jai Su in for additional questioning with his lawyer present. They then took his fingerprints and created a suspect profile before detaining him to request a court order for custody at Chiang Mai Provincial Court.

While in custody, reporters asked Mr. Jai Su how he felt about the incident. He said he felt remorseful for what happened and wanted to apologize to Ms. Kam Ing’s family. He admitted guilt and was ready to confess to all charges.

Mr. Jai Su also revealed that on 1 June, his daughter visited him in the detention room. She cried and encouraged him, telling him, "Please keep fighting, Dad." This made him feel very sorrowful about the incident.

Mrs. Mon, 52, Mr. Jai Su’s elder sister, traveled from Mae Taeng District to visit him before his custody hearing at Chiang Mai Provincial Court. She brought milk and bread to see him. She said that after learning of his arrest, she hurried to visit him.

When asked whether she believed Mr. Jai Su’s claim that Ms. Kam Ing assaulted and harmed him, Mrs. Mon replied that it was probably as he said, since her brother did not like women and had never harmed anyone before. However, she was not at the scene and could not say much. After the incident, she called relatives across the border and learned that Mr. Jai Su’s 87-year-old mother was stressed by his arrest since she is the family’s pillar and receives money from him every month.

Initially, Mae Ping Police investigators filed charges of "intentional homicide" against Mr. Jai Su, then detained him to request custody at Chiang Mai Provincial Court and proceed with legal action accordingly.
