Man Resembling Police Officer Passes Samre Police Traffic Checkpoint Without Helmet, Fined 400 Baht

A man resembling a police officer but not actually one was fined 400 baht for riding a motorcycle without a license plate and without wearing a helmet as he passed through the Samre Police Station traffic checkpoint. He was stopped by officers using radio communication about 150 meters away.

On 4 June 2026, a video clip circulated on social media showing traffic police officers at Samre Police Station signaling a motorcyclist wearing khaki pants to stop. However, the rider did not stop, sparking public criticism.

Later, it was reported that Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, ordered a fact-check. The report confirmed that the person in the video was not a police officer.

On 2 June 2026 between 10:00 and 12:00, traffic police at Samre Police Station set up a checkpoint as ordered under the traffic discipline enforcement plan of Metropolitan Police Division 8. During this time, members of the public recorded videos of the officers performing their duties.

During this, a person dressed in khaki pants, wearing a blue jacket, black cap, and light brown sneakers, riding a motorcycle resembling a blue-gray Honda Fino, approached the officers’ checkpoint and passed through towards Krung Thonburi Road. Officers at the checkpoint radioed another traffic police unit positioned about 150 meters down Krung Thonburi Road to stop the motorcycle.

Upon inspection, the rider was identified as Mr. Sutthipong (surname withheld), age 50, riding from Charoen Nakhon Road towards Krung Thonburi Road. Police Sergeant Major Watcharin Chitkhong, head of a unit at Samre Police Station, charged him for riding without a license plate and without wearing a helmet. Mr. Sutthipong admitted his guilt, apologized to the police, and paid a 400 baht fine at Samre Police Station, as documented on fine receipt number 85 dated 2 June 2026.
