In Phuket, a drinking gathering turned into a violent scene when a friend's words caused offense. The dispute followed the friend to his home, leading to a confrontation where one man was fatally stabbed. Neighbors who tried to intervene were also injured by the knife.
On 4 June 2026 at approximately 04:30, Police Lieutenant Colonel Charat Lempan, investigation officer at Karon Police Station in Phuket, received a report via the station's radio center about an assault with serious injuries at a residence on Patak Road, Karon Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phuket. After the report, he informed Police Colonel Patapee Srichai, chief of Karon Police Station, before proceeding to the scene with relevant officials.
At the scene, a man was found severely injured, lying in a pool of blood in front of the house. He had multiple knife wounds across his body. Rescue personnel provided initial first aid and urgently transported him to Chalong Hospital for emergency treatment.
Meanwhile, Mr. Supakit, the homeowner, awaited the police and voluntarily surrendered, confessing to using a bladed weapon to assault the injured man. He handed over the weapon to investigators as evidence before being taken into custody at Karon Police Station to face legal proceedings.
Later, investigators visited Chalong Hospital to check on the injured man and were informed by medical staff that the victim, identified as Mr. Sornchai Prateep Na Thalang, 48, was in critical condition but had died.
Authorities initially sent the deceased's body to Vachira Phuket Hospital for safekeeping, pending a detailed autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, investigators are gathering evidence and questioning witnesses to establish the true circumstances before proceeding with legal action against the perpetrator.
Preliminary investigation revealed that before the incident, the deceased, Mr. Sornchai, had been drinking alone at his residence. Later, Mr. Kritsada, 38, invited him to join a social gathering at a restaurant near a wholesale mall in Rawai Beach. The suspect, Mr. Supakit, arrived by motorcycle and joined friends in drinking. A dispute occurred inside the restaurant when the victim choked the suspect near the restroom, causing the suspect to become upset and leave immediately.
Subsequently, Mr. Kritsada and Mr. Sornchai followed the suspect to his home, parking in front and loudly calling him out to talk. The noise woke the suspect's wife and child. A heated argument broke out, during which Mr. Sornchai and his friend assaulted Mr. Supakit. Despite attempts by Supakit’s wife and father to intervene, and Supakit’s request for them all to leave as he went inside, Mr. Sornchai continued following to confront him. Supakit’s wife, holding their young child, tried to block him angrily. Supakit then grabbed a knife from inside the house and attacked Mr. Sornchai and his friend, fatally wounding Mr. Sornchai.
Another injured person, Mr. Praphat, 37, a neighbor who tried to stop the fight, was also cut on his right heel and sustained injuries.
Following the incident, Karon police detained the suspect and charged him with "assault causing death." He was subsequently taken to Phuket Provincial Court for detention proceedings.
This afternoon, Phuket forensic officers conducted a detailed examination of the bladed weapon used in the attack. They then collected additional evidence from the suspect’s home, including bloodstains, hair, and other relevant materials, to support the investigation and ascertain the true cause of the event.
Initially, authorities sent the deceased’s body for autopsy and safekeeping at Vachira Phuket Hospital before continuing with legal procedures.
