Police and NBTC Raid Rooftops Along Thai-Malaysian Border, Find Numerous Illegal Antennas Suspected of Cross-Border Signal Transmission

Cyber police and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) raided two rooftop sites along the Thailand-Malaysia border, uncovering numerous illegal antennas believed to be used for unauthorized cross-border signal transmissions.

On 5 June 2026, Police Lieutenant General Suraphol Prembutr, Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, along with Police Lieutenant General Naradet Thiprak, Commander assigned to the Royal Thai Police Office, ordered Police Major General Sila Kanjanarak, Commander of Cyber Crime Division 5, Police Colonel Kukiat Wongphan, Chief of Division 2, Cyber Crime Division 5, Police Lieutenant Colonel Ekkarit Itthichantrawit, Officer of Division 2, Cyber Crime Division 5, and Police Lieutenant Subin Namrat, Officer of Division 2, Cyber Crime Division 5, to conduct operations.

They coordinated with NBTC officials from Region 4 and NBTC District 41 to inspect two locations along the Thailand-Malaysia border in Songkhla province where illegal telecommunications equipment was suspected to be installed for criminal activities related to scam gangs transmitting cross-border signals.

The first location was a hotel in Village 7, Samnak Kham Subdistrict, Sadao District, Songkhla. Upon inspection, authorities found three antennas—radio equipment of unknown brand and model—installed on the roof of the eighth floor. These antennas were used to receive and broadcast mobile phone signals from the neighboring country. Signal cables ran down to the sixth and third floors, connecting to radio communication devices of unknown brand that were disabled. Inside the building, seven antennas connected to these devices were installed across seven floors.

At the second location, an apartment building in Village 7, Samnak Kham Subdistrict, Sadao District, Songkhla, authorities found radio communication antennas of unknown brand installed on the rooftop of the tenth floor, also used to receive and broadcast mobile phone signals from the neighboring country. Three antennas were installed outside the building. Signal cables ran down to the sixth floor, connecting to seven signal amplifiers of unknown brand and model inside the building, as well as four disabled radio communication devices of unknown brand.

All seized evidence was taken to investigators to file complaints and prosecute the involved companies under the law, with further investigations ongoing to identify other parties involved.
