A 60-year-old man shot and injured a mother and daughter, then fled and hid in a rental room across the street. Police surrounded the area to pressure him to surrender, but he ultimately took his own life to avoid prosecution. The motive is suspected to involve jealousy over a 15-year-old girl who was the daughter.
At 08:10 on 8 June 2026, Police Lieutenant Suradet Phoddaeng, deputy investigator of Nong Khae Police Station in Saraburi Province, received a report via emergency line 191 of a shooting incident with injured victims inside a rental room in Nong Khae Municipality. He went to investigate with Police Lieutenant Colonel Phichai Chaikul, acting chief investigator of Nong Khae Police Station, forensic team, on-call doctor from Nong Khae Hospital, and volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation.
The scene was a long row of rental rooms facing each other. Inside the room where the incident occurred, belongings were scattered. Two injured people, a mother and daughter, were found. After the shooting, neighbors helped carry the bloodied victims about 70 meters to seek help from locals at the alley entrance. They were taken to Nong Khae Hospital. The injured were identified as Ms. Bussaba, 45, the mother, who was shot in the left arm, and her 15-year-old daughter, who was hit by bullet fragments in the chest.
The shooter was identified as Mr. Prayong, 60, who lived in a rental room opposite the incident location. After shooting the mother and daughter, many neighbors heard gunshots and came out to see what happened. They helped carry Bussaba and her daughter from the scene to seek help at the alley entrance. This forced Mr. Prayong to hide and lock himself inside his rental room.
Later, police investigators, cautious as the suspect was armed, requested backup and protective gear. They attempted to negotiate with Mr. Prayong to surrender peacefully, but he remained silent and locked inside his room.
After some time, a loud gunshot was heard from inside the rental room. After the sound ceased, officers peeked through the door and found that Mr. Prayong had committed suicide. Upon breaching the door, they found his body with a gunshot wound entering the right cheek and exiting the left cheek, dead at the scene. An illegal firearm lay beside him and was collected as evidence. His body was handed to the foundation to be sent for detailed autopsy.
A neighbor said Mr. Prayong had lived in the rental room with his daughter for years (without a wife). He was originally from Chainat Province and worked as a gardener in an industrial estate in Nong Khae District. Bussaba lived with her daughter alone (without a husband). Before this brazen act, it was known that Mr. Prayong had financially supported the injured 15-year-old girl, who was reportedly attractive and demanding money that he willingly gave. Later, the girl began associating with a young male friend, which fueled his resentment.
This morning, he decided to storm the rental room and shoot the mother and daughter three times. The bullets did not hit vital areas, resulting only in injuries. Mr. Prayong, unable to escape, then took his own life to evade punishment. Police will continue to investigate the exact cause of this incident.
