
Police are urgently searching for a thief who stole 40 baht of gold and more than 3 million baht in Thai and Euro currency from a well-known village in Kathu district; the suspect remains at large.
At 09:00 on 9 June 2026, Police Colonel Chalermchai Hernsawat, Superintendent of Kathu Police Station, reported the theft of gold and cash from a prominent village under his jurisdiction to Police Major General Sinlert Sukhum, Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police.
After the incident, he ordered the Kathu Police investigation team and the Phuket Provincial Police investigation unit to urgently review surveillance footage around the area to track down and arrest the perpetrator for prosecution. The stolen property is valued at several million baht, and the crime was brazen. They also coordinated with the forensic team to collect the suspect’s latent fingerprints for criminal record checks.
The case dates back to 14:00 on 8 June 2026, when Police Lieutenant Viriyaphong Srinualpan, Deputy Superintendent of Investigations at Kathu Police Station, received a report from Mr. Somsak, 54, the caretaker of the house. He said unknown suspects broke in and stole valuables including 33 baht of gold bars, 7 baht of gold jewelry, over 2 million baht in Thai banknotes, and Euro currency worth more than 1 million baht in Thai equivalent, totaling over 6 million baht.
Mr. Somsak explained that the house belongs to his younger brother and sister, who live abroad. He is the caretaker and visits once a week. On the day of the incident, he came to clean the house and found signs of forced entry. Upon checking, he discovered the missing valuables and immediately notified the police to investigate and apprehend the suspect. Authorities are also working to recover all stolen property and return it to the owners.
