A man speeding a car hit a motorcycle, resulting in two deaths. At first, it was thought to be an accident. However, after checking the car’s dashcam, it was discovered that the deceased was his girlfriend who had argued with him before fleeing onto the Good Samaritan’s motorcycle, only to be fatally hit from behind.
At 02:05 on 8 Jun 2026 GMT+7, the Surin Rescue Radio Center received a report of a collision between a car and a motorcycle causing two fatalities and one injury on Thung Pho–Tha Sawang Road, Mueang District, Surin Province. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pornchai Khongutsa, deputy investigation officer of Mueang Surin Police Station, and Dr. Anikom Jaikla, forensic doctor from Surin Hospital, were dispatched to the scene.
At the scene, a black sedan with Surin license plates was found severely damaged at the front with both airbags deployed. The driver was injured. About 10 meters away, a Yamaha motorcycle with Surin plates was wrecked. One female victim, later identified as Ms. Thidarat Thonthong, 32, was found dead; she was believed to be the passenger on the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man named Mr. Nattanon Jithan, from Roi Et Province, was injured after being thrown into a parked car. Surin rescue volunteers rushed him to Surin Hospital, where he later died, becoming the second fatality in the incident.
Initially, the scene appeared to be a typical traffic accident. But when Lieutenant Colonel Pornchai Khongutsa reviewed the car’s dashcam footage, he found the collision was intentional. He informed Police Major General Sukon Sriarun, Commander of Surin Provincial Police, and Police Colonel Ekpong Pholmanee, Superintendent of Mueang Surin Police Station, who ordered the immediate detention of the injured car driver. The suspect was identified as Mr. Anon Khongkeng, 32, from Surin Province.
During investigation, it was revealed that Mr. Anon and Ms. Thidarat were a couple who had an argument inside the car. Mr. Anon forced her to drive. The dashcam video showed Ms. Thidarat trying to ask him to put away a knife because she was scared, but he refused and threatened to harm her if she did not comply. Seizing an opportunity, she stopped the car, ran to get on the motorcycle of Mr. Nattanon, a Good Samaritan passing by. Mr. Anon then chased and deliberately rammed the motorcycle from behind, killing her at the scene. The Good Samaritan later died at the hospital.
Further checks revealed Mr. Nattanon, the Good Samaritan, worked as a construction electrician at the Surin Provincial Electricity Authority branch. His girlfriend had traveled to prepare for his birthday celebration on 9 Jun and they planned to marry in early January 2027.
Recently, the Commander of the 3rd Provincial Police Region and the Surin Provincial Police Chief instructed the Superintendent of Mueang Surin Police Station to present a wreath expressing condolences to the Good Samaritan’s family. They vowed to fully prosecute the suspect under the law, emphasizing the case’s public attention due to the brutal behavior involved, which has deeply saddened everyone aware of the incident.
Police Major General Sukon Sriarun assigned Police Colonel Ekpong Pholmanee and the investigation team to bring Mr. Anon from Surin Hospital to Mueang Surin Police Station to be formally charged. He faces charges of intentional homicide and was sent to court today.
Mr. Anon expressed deep regret over the incident but denied deliberately ramming the car. He said he was unaware the motorcycle carried the Good Samaritan with his girlfriend as a passenger. He added he did not dare approach to apologize at the funeral. He acknowledged that what happened cannot be undone and must be accepted as fate.
