Police collected evidence consisting of lottery ashes and sent them to the Forensic Science Division for examination in the Sukhothai lottery controversy after Uncle Det claimed he set fire to destroy the tickets. Meanwhile, “Aunt Waew” sat with her head down, refusing to answer questions from the media.
Progress in the Sukhothai lottery case involves the missing winning first-prize lottery ticket number 173770. Ms. Saiyan Dokmai, known as “Aunt Khayan,” from Pak Nam Subdistrict, Sawankhalok District, Sukhothai Province, filed a police report stating she had given her lottery ticket to a neighbor to check. The neighbor hugged her in joy upon confirming the ticket was the first-prize winner. The neighbor asked if she wanted to keep it for her, and she agreed, leaving the ticket there and not taking it home. However, on a later visit, the neighbor said the ticket was no longer a winner and had been thrown in the trash. Upon inspection, only two tickets remained in the bin, and the winning ticket was missing. Eventually, Mr. Det confessed to taking the first-prize ticket from Aunt Khayan and claimed he had burned it during the time the case gained widespread attention, as previously reported.
The latest update from Sawankhalok Police Station in Sukhothai reports that investigators summoned “Aunt Waew,” Uncle Det’s wife, for additional questioning at the police station. Pol. Col. Nikom Promphiram, the station chief, revealed that evidence investigation led to Aunt Waew as the person who kept the lottery tickets. Police have charged her with "joint theft" to proceed with legal action.
Subsequently, investigators brought Uncle Det from the detention room to sit alongside his wife for further questioning together. Aunt Waew did not respond to any questions from reporters when asked if she admitted the evidence, confessed, or wished to apologize to Aunt Khayan.
Pol. Col. Nikom Promphiram, Sawankhalok Police Chief, disclosed that authorities have collected the lottery ashes, which Mr. Det claimed to have burned, and have sent them to the Forensic Science Division for verification. They will compare the burned lottery tickets. Initially, charges of joint theft have been filed.
When reporters asked who threw the two non-winning lottery tickets into the trash, Pol. Col. Nikom Promphiram stated that Mr. Det was the person who discarded them. Meanwhile, Aunt Waew is currently being questioned by investigators, and the atmosphere remains tense.
