Court Grants Bail to Uncle Dech and Aunt Waew in 6-Million Baht Lottery Case with 100,000 Baht Each

The Sawanglok Provincial Court authorized the temporary release of “Uncle Dech” and “Aunt Waew” on bail set at 100,000 baht each. The court imposed conditions forbidding them from tampering with evidence and requiring strict adherence to scheduled reporting. This followed the prosecutor's petition to detain them on two charges: joint theft and joint destruction of documents.

Regarding developments in the Sukhothai lottery confusion case, on 13 June 2026, reporters reported that after investigators from Sawanglok Police Station detained “Aunt Waew” for questioning and charged her with joint theft, the authorities interrogated her late into the night before granting temporary release. The next morning, “Aunt Waew” returned to the Sawanglok police station for further questioning and to sign a statement, while “Uncle Dech” remained in custody.

When asked about Uncle Dech's condition, he spoke normally and ate and drank a little. Later, officers presented three documents for Uncle Dech to sign in the detention room. Subsequently, the authorities escorted him out of the cell to be transported to Sawanglok Provincial Court for detention along with Aunt Waew.

Officers placed Uncle Dech at the back of the detainee transport vehicle, while Aunt Waew sat in the front seat.

Reporters asked Uncle Dech whether he acted alone in burning the lottery tickets or if others were involved. He replied that he burned them alone. When asked about CCTV footage showing Uncle Dech riding a motorcycle with Aunt Waew as a passenger on 6 June 2026, he said it was unrelated to his wife and insisted, “I burned them alone.” Then, the officers drove both detainees to Sawanglok Provincial Court for detention. Reports indicated that Aunt Waew continued to deny the charges.

Subsequently, reporters reported that Sawanglok Provincial Court accepted the prosecutor's petition to detain the suspects in the 6-million baht first prize lottery case. The Sawanglok Police requested detention of “Mr. Dech” and “Mrs. Waew” for 12 days, from 13 to 24 June 2026.

Both suspects are accused of jointly committing theft and jointly damaging, destroying, concealing, taking, or causing the loss of documents or property belonging to others, from an incident occurring on 1 June 2026 in Pak Nam Subdistrict, Sawanglok District, Sukhothai Province.

The court considered that the two suspects did not require legal counsel and did not oppose detention. Moreover, there was no indication they would flee, so the court approved detention as requested by the prosecution.

At the same time, the court ordered the temporary release of both suspects, setting bail at 100,000 baht each, totaling 200,000 baht. Conditions include a prohibition against interfering with case evidence and strict requirements to report to the court as scheduled.

The younger brother of the second suspect provided the cash bail for both defendants before the court authorized their release at approximately 11:00 a.m.

The court scheduled the suspects to report again on 31 July 2026 at 9:00 a.m. to proceed with legal processes.
