Police Lieutenant Colonel Found Shot Through the Forehead in Bedroom in Buriram Investigation Underway

In Buriram, neighbors heard a gunshot early before discovering the body of a Police Lieutenant Colonel from Mueang Buriram Police Station shot through the forehead. Police are urgently investigating after the wife stated the gun accidentally discharged while she was preparing to leave for work. This account conflicts with the scene, where the officer was wearing a T-shirt and shorts and was found on the bed.

At around 06:00 on 13 June 2026, Police Lieutenant Anuchit Pengwichit, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Mueang Buriram Police Station, received a report from Buriram Hospital of a police officer shot and injured inside a residence in Baan Maka, Village No. 2, Chumhet Subdistrict, Mueang District, Buriram Province. Ambulance services from Buriram Hospital were dispatched to assist at the scene.

The scene was a single-story concrete house. Inside the bedroom lay Police Lieutenant Colonel Weerawat Prakongcheep, 54, Police Cadet Class 46, Service Year 37, assigned as a patrol officer at Chumhet Subdistrict Police Station, Mueang Buriram. He had been shot with a 9 mm handgun through the mouth and out the forehead. He was dressed in a short-sleeved blue T-shirt and shorts, lying on the bed in critical condition. Officials quickly administered first aid before rushing him to Buriram Hospital. The exact cause remains unknown.

Lieutenant Colonel Raksanaong Bamrungkewan, 71, a neighboring resident, said he heard a gunshot early in the morning, followed by the wife of Police Lieutenant Colonel Weerawat shouting for help. He rushed to check and found the injured man shot on the bed, then called the authorities.

When asked what happened, the wife simply replied, "The gun went off accidentally" while she was preparing to leave for work.

However, police will continue investigating to determine the facts. Possibilities include self-harm, as the officer was still in sleepwear and the incident occurred on the bed, or an accidental discharge. The bullet's trajectory—from the mouth through the forehead—does not align with typical self-inflicted wounds.
