The court granted temporary release to a Border Patrol Police officer who shot motorcycle taxi drivers, setting bail at 500,000 baht. The conditions include prohibitions against tampering with evidence, leaving the kingdom, carrying firearms, or meeting the victims’ wife and relatives.
Update on the case of Police Sergeant Major Namthap, 33, of the Border Patrol Police, who had a verbal dispute with motorcycle taxi drivers in front of Soi Prachasongkroh 38, Huai Khwang, Bangkok. After failing to agree on the fare, the argument escalated into a fight and the use of a firearm, resulting in two deaths: Mr. Phurit, 37, and Mr. Charin, 48. Another man, Mr. Kiattisak, 46, was injured, as previously reported.
At 13:30 on 15 June 2026 at the Criminal Court, investigators from Huai Khwang Police Station brought Police Sergeant Major Namthap Phakwatthana of Border Patrol Police Company 21 to be remanded on charges of intentional homicide, attempted murder, and unlawful carrying of a firearm in public. The suspect denied all allegations during the investigation. The police requested a 12-day remand from 15 to 26 June 2026, opposing bail due to concerns the suspect might flee or hinder the case.
While the police escorted the suspect into the vehicle to the court, he kept his head down and wore a hat to conceal his face. Reporters asked if he had any comments; he briefly said, “I’m sorry.” When asked who started the altercation, he replied shortly, “Yes,” then repeated, “I’m sorry.” Afterwards, Police Sergeant Major Namthap boarded the vehicle.
Subsequently, the Criminal Court approved the remand. The suspect’s father posted collateral—a condominium in the Makkasan area valued at 1 million baht—as bail, which is currently under court consideration.
Meanwhile, the wives of the two deceased victims arrived to oppose the bail request.
Recently, the court reviewed the petition and noted the suspect voluntarily surrendered to police after the incident. Considering that the suspect is employed and has a fixed residence, the court permitted bail during the investigation, setting it at 500,000 baht. Conditions strictly prohibit the suspect from tampering with evidence or any actions that could hinder the investigation, traveling abroad without court permission, contacting or approaching the victims’ wives or relatives, and carrying firearms.
