A military officer holding the rank of Lieutenant (ร.ต.) from the Kalasin City District Military Office stormed the provincial military officer’s office in the provincial hall and shot him dead. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a transfer order to serve in another district. After the shooting, the suspect surrendered, and police are conducting an investigation.
At 09:20 AM on 17 June 2026, reporters reported a serious incident inside the Kalasin provincial hall building. Several gunshots were fired on the fourth floor, where the Kalasin Provincial Military Office is located, causing civil servants, government employees, and visitors to flee the building in panic.
Police from Kalasin City Police Station, along with Suwat Khemthanphet, Governor of Kalasin, Phadungsak Im-erb, Deputy Governor, Police Major General Songpol Buranprasit, Provincial Police Commander, and Santi Jattuphan, Kalasin Provincial Secretary, plus rescue units, rushed to the scene. They found Colonel Korwikanon, the 59-year-old Kalasin Provincial Military Officer, lying dead in his office.
Examination revealed multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect was identified as 59-year-old Lieutenant Chinakorn, a military officer from Kalasin City District Military Office, who was waiting at the scene to surrender with the firearm used. Police immediately took him into custody for questioning at Kalasin City Police Station.
Initial investigations revealed the violence stemmed from a conflict over duties. Lieutenant Chinakorn was dissatisfied with a transfer order assigning him to the Kamalasai District Military Office. He came to meet Colonel Korwikanon, his superior, to discuss and question the order. A heated argument ensued, and in a fit of rage, the suspect used his firearm to shoot and kill his superior. Forensics are currently collecting detailed evidence, including physical and circumstantial, to complete the case file.
The Governor of Kalasin instructed authorities to handle the case strictly according to the law and ordered immediate psychological support for officials present during the incident, as the event was deeply distressing.
The incident caused significant emotional shock. Investigators will conduct thorough questioning of the suspect to determine the true motive before proceeding with the highest level of criminal prosecution.
