A Thai-Hong Kong mixed-race woman appealed to the "Saimai Must Survive" page, claiming she was deceived by a famous fortune teller into paying for a ritual to summon her husband, losing over 30 million baht. In the end, her husband did not return, and when she filed a police report, officers demanded additional fees for case processing.
At 10:00 a.m. on 17 June 2026 at the coordination center of the Saimai Must Survive page on Wat Ko Road, Saimai district, Bangkok, Ms. Petchrin, 47, who works as a secretary for a shipping company in Hong Kong, flew in to seek help from Aekpop Luangprasert, founder of the Saimai Must Survive page, and Nirand Kengao, co-founder, to request justice. She explained that she was deceived by a famous fortune teller operating a Facebook page. About four years ago, after discovering her Hong Kong husband’s infidelity, she turned to the fortune teller and transferred money for various rituals over 100 times during 3-4 years, losing more than 30 million baht. When she reported the case to police, she was asked to pay case processing fees totaling hundreds of thousands of baht.
Ms. Petchrin said her father is from Hong Kong. She grew up, lives, and works there, holding both Thai and Hong Kong ID cards. Four years ago, after discovering her husband’s affair, she sought help from a fortune teller by searching Facebook pages. She found one and contacted them via chat, then moved to LINE for fortune-telling. At first, the fortune teller said her Hong Kong husband was cursed by a Hong Kong rival who came to Thailand to cast spells. The fortune teller asked her to send a photo of her ID card to strengthen her luck. Then, the fortune teller persuaded her to transfer money to a bank account for rituals to bind their fates. She was warned that failing to perform these rituals would offend the spiritual teacher and bring disaster to her life. Afraid, she complied and sent money. The fortune teller then sent love charm oil from Thailand to Hong Kong for her to drink and bathe with. After using the oil, she began having strange dreams of mysterious beings, leading her to believe the fortune teller was genuine and possessed real magical power.
The fortune teller then tricked her into transferring money for various rituals over 100 times during 3-4 years, causing her to lose more than 30 million baht. She has the transfer slips but was left financially ruined and deeply in debt, while her husband never returned.
Ms. Petchrin added that she regained awareness when her Hong Kong ID card expired. She went to renew it and suddenly realized she had been deceived. She then decided to file a police report at a station recommended by a friend but was asked to pay case processing fees totaling hundreds of thousands of baht. She paid multiple times but the case made no progress, so she came to appeal to the Saimai Must Survive page.
Mr. Aekpop said this case should not be complicated because there is clear evidence of money transfers of 300,000 to 400,000 baht each time. Regarding the fees demanded for case processing, he will coordinate with the Pravet Police Station chief to investigate all officers involved, as the victim claims she paid five to six police officers, including inspectors, lieutenants, and sergeants, as fees to handle the case, to clarify whether police work requires payment for case processing.
